5.0 out of 5 stars Provides insights
Familiarity with Book 1 would be helpful but is not a requirement for Conversations with Seth, Book 2, which continues the dialogues and adventures between Jane Roberts and her class members as they debate with channeled psychic entity Seth. 5.0 out of 5 stars Provides insights, September 23, 2006
This review is from: Conversations With Seth, Book 2: 25th Anniversary Edition (v. 2) (Paperback)
Familiarity with Book 1 would be helpful but is not a requirement for Conversations with Seth, Book 2, which continues the dialogues and adventures between Jane Roberts and her class members as they debate with channeled psychic entity Seth. Susan Watkins spent time in the company of both: her recreation of the atmosphere and concerns of a 1970s metaphysical class provides insights into premonition dreams, mass events, politics, and God alike, and will intrigue any with an interest in channeling in general and Seth in particular.

The book was well written, moved along nicely, and included absolutely amazing insights and new approaches to view our life and physical reality. It was a refreshing, uplifting and a life affirming breath of fresh air in the book world. Well done, Ms Watkins!

5.0 out of 5 stars ADDITIONAL INSIGHTS INTO JANE ROBERTS AND "SETH", July 18, 2011
Jane Roberts (1929-1984) was an American author, poet, psychic and spirit medium, who claimed she had "channeled" a personality she called "Seth," who manifested himself while she was in trance, and whose "material" has been published in a great many volumes (e.g., Seth Speaks: The Eternal Validity of the Soul, The Seth Material, The Nature of the Psyche: Its Human Expression (Seth Book), The Way Toward Health: A Seth Book, etc.). Susan Watkins was a member of a weekly ESP class that Jane also conducted, and wrote this book (and its predecessor, Conversations with Seth, Book 1: 25th Anniversary Edition), documenting the class; Watkins also wrote a memoir/biography of Roberts, Speaking of Jane Roberts: Remembering the Author of the Seth Material.

Watkins wrote in the Prologue of this 1981 book, "In retrospect, the writing of this book made clear to me how, all without conscious purpose, Jane's ESP class brought together an alliance of people who were ready to make new gods, and who were willing to take off on a daring and irreverent journey through their individual identities to find where these new gods might reside. In doing so, we discovered that each one of us is miraculously and quite naturally set up to take those journeys, with or without philosophies or groups---as Jane and Rob's extraordinary private experience demonstrates."

Here are some additional quotations from the book:

"And although neither Jane nor Rob use marijuana or other drugs nor permitted their use in class, it was the format of this ongoing debate that provided us all with our first real insight into the rise of the drug culture: through the LSD trip of Lauren Delmarie." (Pg. 341)
"'I did not mean to imply that you were on a teeter-totter, with a fat self up here and a thin self down there, or a good self up here and a bad self down there...' Seth replied. 'Merely that each of you, in your own way, works out your IDEAS of good or bad, of "opposites"; that you are working with the same challenges, and that---' here, Seth's voice boomed out---'there are no opposites!'" (Pg. 487)
"What Seth is saying---and it's tricky indeed---is simply(!): Our beliefs create whatever we've got, period. The framework of our birth represents the framework of our intent in physical life, period. And the complicated exterior manipulations of history and circumstance---all the methods ever used to sustain, change, or modify our physical situations---are the output of individual and mass beliefs, and affect that exterior framework only. And if we don't like things, we have to change the inner precepts, or nothing else will change. We have to evolve a new consciousness." (Pg. 537-538)
