Product Description

You are Wise. You have an inner source of wisdom that far exceeds
what you think of as your limits.

As you work with your Journal, you will learn to tap this inner wisdom, and you will learn methods of growing that you have always thought possible ... but always seemed just out of reach.

This book is a workshop on Journal writing. You are invited to follow the program by steps in order to allow the teaching to unfold naturally. The original website Journal-Writing.com, from which this book was written, was created in 1996 as an online workshop on the practice of journal writing as a modality for personal growth. In its development, Gerry introduced the Internal Dialog approach to the practice, developed over more than 20 years as a journal writer.

Since its ground-breaking debut, the website has been used by thousands of people worldwide, including teachers and students of writing, as well as psychology and counseling.

We are very pleased to bring this valuable technique and practice to the written format.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!, September 5, 2011

This review is from: Conversations Within: Journal Writing and Internal Dialog (Kindle Edition)
I was involved in this workshop before it was created as an ebook and I feel that it is the most comprehensive journal instructive that I have ever seen. Gerry covers all the bases in a way that leave little room for questions, and additionally, he gives me more in-depth ideas to work with than I ever imagined. I mistakenly thought journal writing was like making a diary, but this book was an eye-opener. It is so much more than that! Gerry shows me a way to express my thoughts and feelings and explore my psyche deeper than ever.

Thank you, Gerry.

More About the Author

Gerry Starnes, M.Ed. began his career journey in 1977 when, after earning a Masters degree in School Psychology, he became a counselor working in residential treatment. After a few years, he recognized that something significant was missing from traditional therapeutic modalities.

For the next twenty years, he followed a serpentine route that lead him through many teachings and traditions. Along the way he began to sense that however different they might seem, they shared a common connection, a meaningful thread.

In 1996, Gerry put his growing experience and knowledge into a new approach: developing Internal Dialog using journal writing, which he had practiced for thirty years, as a vehicle. The Conversations Within online workshop in journal writing (www.journal-writing.com) presented this approach to a world-wide audience. He augmented and supported this material by creating and presenting Journal workshops.

Also in the late 1990s, Gerry encountered contemporary shamanism as a practical approach to integrating spiritual guidance into everyday life. As he learned about shamanic practice, he discovered that it was an organic vehicle for work that matched his experience and values.

He founded the first shamanic journey circle in Austin in 2003, which has now grown to more than four circles per month. During that time, he also began to offer individual sessions based on his experience with both traditional and alternative modalities.

In 2005, Gerry co-founded and became the Executive Director of the Ravens Grove Foundation for Healing. This not for profit organization focuses on the application of complementary techniques to the issue of trauma and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), including war trauma and sexual abuse.

In 2009, he created a new program called Spirit Paths, a five month program that teaches shamanic principles and practices and provides support for experiencing change in everyday life.

Gerry currently offers classes, workshops and retreats based on contemporary shamanic and traditional personal development practices. He is also a founding member of the Society for Shamanic Practitioners.
