About the Author

A lifetime resident of Colorado's Western Slope, Davine Pera has been a resident of the Telluride vicinity since 1953. Her love for the history of the area was stimulated by the pioneering roots of both her paternal and maternal grandparents in the Telluride region. Davine's great-grandfather raised vegetables in Ilium Valley which he hauled over Ophir Pass in a wagon for sale in Silverton. Other turn-of-the-century relatives ranches on Wilson Mesa; one being the 800 acre Schmid ranch which was recently preserved from development through a conservation easement. She has been the coordinator for the oral history program at the Wilkinson Public Library in Telluride for the last 12 years and continues to record and catalog the valuable experiences of those who created Telluride, Colorado's colorful history.
