5.0 out of 5 stars Five Star All Stars, November 10, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars are not just a fashion statement. Back in the day, they were my choice of athletic footwear -- following in my father's footsteps -- while starting center on the high school basketball team. For a 6'2" white guy with a moderate vertical leaping ability, I didn't have to worry about losing any spring in my step, and I always led stats in rebounds and blocked shots against players wearing the then-ubiquitous Adidas, Puma and Converse "Dr. J" hi-tops. In all fairness, and as a disclaimer, 80% of the opposing team members were white guys, too.

Still, though I have absolutely no vertical leap left (hey. I graduated 24 years ago), I still wear these shoes, just because. Like one reviewer pointed out, they're a great conversation starter. Plus, they're as comfy as a second pair of feet.

At the turn of the 20th to the 21st century, it appeared that there'd be NO Chucks left at all: The Massachusetts factory was closing down, and Chucks appeared to be going the way of acid-wash jeans. Fortunately (or, unfortunately, if you're a member of the garment workers' union), Converse went through some reorganization and now makes these overseas, presumably in China.

Well, I'm boycotting the People's Republic of China, an anti-labor country that has helped more American CEOs bust unions than just about anyone else. Its own people are slave labor. Fortunately, I thought ahead, so when Converse was on the ropes, I went out to every shoe store around and bought up all the size 12 hi tops I could find. To be exact, 143 pairs -- a closet full. I've got 'em in white, optical white, green, red, basic black, navy blue, yellow, orange, you name it. Set me back $2700, but was worth every penny, knowing that American workers made them.

I AM THE IMELDA MARCOS OF CONVERSE CHUCK TAYLOR ALL-STAR SHOES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But, not PINK! (Apparently, you couldn't find size 12 mens in hot pink. Oh, well.)

But, if you're a newcomer to Chucks, or missed the boat, I won't hate ya for buying these for yourselves. They are so cool, I'll look the other way.

I have to look the other way myself: I buy the toddler sizes for my two wittle one. Aw!!!! :) At least I help keep American shoe store employees employed, if not factory workers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good price for a fairly hard to find item, May 30, 2009
I checked a lot of stores in our area looking for this shoe. After purchasing this shoe online, I finally did come across a local store that carried it, but none of the major shoe outlets had it. Shipping was very quick. No complaints at all about this purchase.

Color was a lighter shade of pink on screen than when I received them. I like the pale pink better.

I sent these pink Converse hi-top shoes to my son to wear for me in honor of breast cancer awareness month, he was so happy to get them....REALLY!!!!! Even put pink ribbon shoe strings in them. Wonderful quality, timely delivery, even arrived earlier than promised, am very thankful for that as they were for his birthday! Thanks again to Amazon for working with dealers who are conscientious, they make Amazon look real good!

4.0 out of 5 stars A great way to stand out., August 7, 2009
They say that "it takes a real man to wear pink", but even among women and girls who wear Converse, pink is an uncommon color. These make quite a statement no matter what crowd you run with. In some ways it can even be a safety measure, as they make you easy to identify in a multitide. Because they are so unique, people that wouldn't normally remember or even pay you a second glance will tend to look twice and/or learn to recognize you - I think that alone makes these worth the money compared to any other shoe.

In addition, unlike many shoes, Converse don't mind being thrown in the washing machine for occasional cleaning (just avoid the bleach, or you'll fade them quite fast). Thus, I don't mind wearing these everywhere, because if they get dirty it's no big deal.

Speaking of fading, pink Converse have to be worn for awhile before they resemble the color of the image shown - they are a bit more bright, deep pink than they appear. They are not "neon pink" (a separate and easily distinguished color), but nonetheless pinker than the image.

Converse almost invariably seem to run a half size larger, and these are no exception. So if you're a 9.5, get a 9, etc. These were my very first pair, and I'm glad that I tried them on in a store to learn this before ordering - it would have been a rather unpleasant surprise.

Also true to most Converse, these have little to no arch support, a thinner sole compared to most modern shoes (i.e. you'll feel it if you step on a rock or such), and don't take too kindly to being worn in the rain, mud, snow, etc. I certainly wouldn't run a mile or take a hike in them. For those reasons, I've got to knock one star, as much as I otherwise love these shoes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Luv my AllStars, March 1, 2009
This review is from: Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Canvas High Top Pink M9006 (Apparel)
I love the color of these Chuck Taylor tennis shoes. And the Hi Top style is so cool. They are soooo cute on my feet. The pink was such a pretty pink that I did not want to wear them outside (that did not happen, had to wear them) to cute not to wear out of the house. They go great with a sweatsuit I just purchased. Luv them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome adorable shoe, September 30, 2008
By
These shoes are for my daughter who is 9. She and I looked everywhere for this shoe in a physical store because I wanted her to try them on before buying (she has a wide foot) but had no luck, so I finally ordered them here and they fit great. I ordered her true women's size. She gets compliments on them all the time.
