Clearly states that its for training and light duty, but it stands up to being in the woods.
If these boots are laced properly for use with a side zipper, there is no problem with removing them.
I don't know how I got so lucky to get a boot for such a low price but I am thankful I found them!!

These Converse boots are freaking awesome compared to those other terrible brands.

Second, the zip is so short and vertical that even if you cut the fabric gusset, it can still be a struggle to get your foot into the boot when laced reasonably tight.

They are already worn out and falling apart after wearing them about 3 days a week and not doing anything but walking for 3 months.

Many of the negative reviews of these boots rests in the fact that the buyer purchased them for something other than their intended purpose. If you try to use a hammer for a screwdriver, its not going not going to work. As a WORK boot, these boots perform well. I've worn them for 10 to 12 hours and at the end of the day they feel as good as when I first put them on. They did not require any break in time. I have had surgery on my achilles tendon and they provide good ankle support. The toe and electric protection are an added plus. Sizing was accurate. If these boots are laced properly for use with a side zipper, there is no problem with removing them. When using a side boot zipper you are supposed to tighten the first 3 or 4 eyelets to a comfortable fit and tie a square knot. Then zip up the boot and continue lacing for the proper fit on the tops. When removing you just have to unzip and untie the bow. By lacing this way it allows for changes in sock thickness, ankle swelling, material stretching, hot or cold weather wear, etc. I would buy these again without hesitation.

The Converse Velocity 8" side zip boot is truly ultra-light, so don't expect a heavy duty combat or work boot. Think of it as a tough high-top sneaker that meets ASTM F2413-11 class 75 impact and compression (with the composite toe). I only have a few miles on them so far, but materials, fit, and finish are just what I expect from Converse. Now for the more controversial topics: fit and use of the side zip. My foot is a dead-on 9.5 wide; I've found that when going to the wide I've had to drop down to a 9 - other reviewers have noted this and have to agree. Other reviewers complain that the zip can't be used as they expected; lacing the boots up tight and then easily slipping in and out of them when unzipped. There's a secret to using almost any side zip boot: it has to snug on your foot and just fit your lower calf. Tough to do if you're just going to lace up and tie at the top eye. Use a square knot to keep the laces snug on your foot and a bow at the top eye just to close the boot around your calf. For the Velocity, unzip, unlace the top three eyes, step in, zip up, cinch the laces to snug your foot in, keep that tight with a square knot between the 4th and 5th eye, lace up to the top eye, gently tighten the laces and tie off at the top eye as usual. You should be able to don and doff your boots just using the zipper.

I purchased these boots as an alternative to the C8874's I've been using for the past few years. These boots seem to have a better sole when it comes to concrete and asphalt work, and they are also lighter and feel even more like a tennis shoe. They are also easier to clean than the above mentioned boots as mud/asphalt doesn't stick like it did in the half moon tread. However, this tread is a bit dangerous when going from a wet outdoors to a painted warehouse floor. I haven't (luckily) been able to compare the tread on ice and snow, but the C8874's were ok in that regard and I'm guessing these won't be. Also, the side zip... It's completely useless until you cut the adjoining web out. After a few weeks of cutting down ravelling threads these boots are comfortable and no longer require re-tying everytime you use them.

With some minor tweaks these could be fantastic work boots, as they are now with a little modification they are merely good.

*EDIT* After extended wear time I can comment a bit more. The sole's tread is much hardier than the C8874s, however I've hurt my foot a few times when "stomping" on a shovel or similar actions I typically perform. So while the tread itself is stronger, the sole is softer/more flexible and you lose the protection on your arch when performing certain activities. Unlike the other guy above me, I have not had any quality issues and I work construction every day. Not doubting his review at all, seems about right for Converse boots to me with bad quality control. Unless one day I wake up and magicaly love these, I'll be going back to the C8874s unles Nike comes out with a sage safety toe alternative.

I've worn Belleville and Corcoran boots since I entered the AF 8 years ago. These Converse boots are freaking awesome compared to those other terrible brands.

These boots feel like a comfortable pair of tennis shoes, straight out of the box.

There is a tag attached that states to use the boots for "light to medium duty", and since 90 percent of my time in the air force is spent staring at a computer screen then this boot will suit me perfectly. I would probably give these a try even if I still worked MX.

I've noticed a lot of the reviews for this boot state that the side zipper is ineffective. Mine works well, maybe it's a problem if you have cankles or something.

Even though I have not worn the boot for a full day, I have tried them on and worn them around the house and love them. I rolled the dice and got a size a half smaller than I normally wear. Luckily because they were men's and in a wide width. They are extremely light and I am looking forward to wearing them. I have more of an office job instead of a maintenance position which I have had for most of my Air Force career so these should work just great!
