Book Description

An abducted child.
A family destroyed by grief and guilt.
A man of God.

When 12-year-old Tina Snowdon and her little sister Annie gratefully accept a lift from a helpful stranger, she has no way of knowing that only one of them will make it home.

As Tina’s life is torn apart by pain and recrimination, the only evidence the police have points to George Cotter, a pillar of the local church. But as the investigation continues, it seems that perhaps a deeper and more disturbing truth may lie behind little Annie’s abduction …

‘Convictions’ is the first novel by Julie Morrigan, the critically-acclaimed author of short story collection ‘Gone Bad’.

Praise for ‘Convictions’:

Tina as the troubled surviving sister is an amazing character, full of charm, vulnerability and strength in turn. The book feels in some way like an update of Ordinary People, crossed with a wonderful police procedural/mystery.
Josh Stallings

'Convictions' by Julie Morrigan is a pulse-pounding thriller with its feet on the ground and its big heart peeking out from under its ragged, bloody sleeve.
Paul D. Brazill

This edition July 2012.

2.0 out of 5 stars Where's the end? March 6, 2012

If you don't like books which leave you hanging, don't bother with this one. It's a shame because I thoroughly enjoyed the story until the "end". I actually said, "What?!" out loud and kept pushing the kindle button, hoping for the end to miraculously appear. It builds and builds until you're chomping at the bit to see what happens to everyone and then...nothing! The author could have had a real winner if she'd only finished the story. Believe me; you'll be anxiously waiting to see what happens but nothing does. I don't believe I've read a book with an ending that was such a letdown.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner October 19, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
First of all, if you haven't already read Gone Bad, this author's short story collection - read that first because it is a superb collection, and like this full length is also a great bargain, and shouldn't be missed. This one has a great story; a "missing person" novel that moves along at a quick pace and will not disappoint. Also don't let the fact that this is only available as an Ebook (or because it is so inexpensive,) lead you to believe that this is anything less than a top notch effort - I would easily rank this in the top 5 crime fiction debuts this year alongside many of the books currently sitting on my bookshelf!

5.0 out of 5 stars Damn Fine 1st novel May 15, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I first read Julie Morrigan's massive brilliant Gone Bad short story collection, and I wanted more. So when I heard she had a novel out I snapped it up. And I'm glad I did. Being used to her tight short form prose it did take a bit to get used to a slower pace. But I'm glad I kept reading, Tina as the troubled surviving sister it an amazing character, full of charm, vulnerability and strength in turn. The book feels in some way like an up date of Ordinary People, crossed with a wonderful police procedural/mystery. I can't wait to see what Julie Morrigan comes up with next.

1.0 out of 5 stars I feel used by this author April 5, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I cannot explain how angry it makes me when an author leads you down the primrose path! This book started out really good. I was really into the story and the characters but then it began to go downhill. A few more swear words, some inappropriate scenes that the description did not prepare you for. Then the lesbian sec began with two young characters but at first it was kept very vague but just now as the chapter ended with one teen-aged girl saying to the other. "I am so horny, eat me, bitch." I knew I was done with this book and I would try to warn any unsuspecting readers like myself who don't appreciate being sucked into the ugly seamy side of life with no warning. I would not have gotten this book had there been any indication of it's content.

5.0 out of 5 stars British pleaser July 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I thoroughly enjoyed this missing person story. Everything about the book screamed British and it was refreshing to "listen" to the narrative of the cops and criminals. The ending sneaked up rather quickly and I was a little disappointed that she didn't finish off the story with more substance, but nonetheless enjoyed the read very much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Convictions August 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed reading this book, meaning it was hard to put down. It is sad so many kids were taken away from their families and being forced to live the way they were. I am glad they were all found, but to know their lives are to change once again, back with their families is going to be hard.

4.0 out of 5 stars interesting premise! January 11, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was surprised by how much I liked this book - I started off reading it thinking it would be the same ol' "who done it" plot, but was genuinely impressed with how the story progressed and I found myself connecting with the characters - what an interesting read!
