Sylane Mack's story is an inspiration to us all. Through her strong faith and forgiveness, she rises above the horrors she endured as a child and forgave the people who traumatized her. I was lucky enough to meet Sylane and hear her tell her heartwrenching story first-hand. She has transformed into a lovely, engaging, funny woman, and our time flew by as I was captivated by her sad childhood story and her accomplished career as a counselor and speaker. No one would ever guess that this charming woman had lived through such horrors, and her candid telling of her story has helped and is helping countless people around the world.

Convinced is a story of the transforming power of God for today. This real life story of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse was not written for the faint of heart, but rather for the broken, twisted hearts of anyone who has experienced similar evil. It is a story of hope in the face of unimaginable evil. It is a story of a God who enters our hell with his justice and love, through the cross, in order to make all things new again. Is this really possible? There is no other explanation for the total transformation of Sylane. The power of God not only transformed her heart, but it defeated the evil in the lives that almost destroyed hers- her mother, father, and older brother.

Sylane's book is raw - be forewarned. If you have been abused and still need healing, you may have a strong reaction. It may make you squeamish, even if you haven't been abused. God used it to help me process my own stuff. It's real and ugly and beautiful all wrapped up in one. I found the book to give the signposts to healing very clearly and it's an amazing story of God's transforming Love and Grace in the midst of the unthinkable. I was completely convinced that God could take ANY situation and make good of it by the time I finished.

"The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually." Genesis 6:5 The Bible teaches us clearly that sin has corrupted every faculty of man - his heart, intentions and thoughts. Sylane cuts right to this biblical reality. She invites broken readers into the world of wickedness she entered, in that little trailer in New York, where even there God touched down to transform her little life and the life of those around her.

Sylane's powerful story is a small version of the entire story of God's redeeming work in the lives of His people. This is God's story as Sylane says in her book. The Bible's story finds its climax in the person of Jesus Christ, just as Sylane's story found its climax in her beautiful Savior. Jesus, our Great High Priest, is able to sympathize with his people...even someone who has experienced something as tragic, dark and evil as his beautiful daughter Sylane. His love and compassion is without bounds. In your day of trouble remember your salvation, as Sylane did, and you will find comfort for your soul. (Psalm 77)

This book is more than an inspirational story. It serves as a life changing tool. The author has revealed some of, if not all of her deepest, darkest hurts from a horrifying abusive life as a child. Her life didn't end there in the dark because, "God's grace and truth still speak in the darkest of places." I would encourage you to read this book if you have experienced and/or know of someone who has experienced the pain; in most cases the paralyzing remnants remaining in their lives after physical, emotional and/or sexual abuse occurs. There is hope for healing because there is power in the Word of God. There is freedom in truth and perhaps now it is your time for healing!

There are many adjectives I could use to describe author Sylane Mack's story, but for some reason, none of them seem relevant or good enough...none seem to truly fit. Unbelievable? Perhaps. Amazing? Yes. Powerful? Without a doubt. While the book has physically left my hands, Sylane's story and amazing message of God's transforming love, grace, mercy & forgiveness REFUSED to leave my head, my heart, my soul. Long after I finished reading, I felt as though no matter where I went, no matter what I was in the middle of doing, no matter who I was with, I was being gently confronted by a voice asking me, "What are you going to do about this story you've read? What are you going to do with the message you received? How are you going to live your life now?" If you know someone who is suffering, who has gone or is going through harsh and desperate life circumstances, whether or not they're similar to Sylane's, or it's you yourself who is in need of God's touch of love, grace, forgiveness and healing, then I highly recommend the purchase of this book.
