Editorial Reviews

Review

Influencing people to commit to a common purpose is the primary task of a leader, according to Dick Richards, author of Setting Your Genius Free, Assessing Your Team, and the award-winning Artful Work. His coaching and training activities with organizations of all sizes around the world have enabled him to observe leaders in many settings and to draw conclusions about the competencies necessary to obtain commitment from employees. In this e-Doc Dick explains those competencies and delineates the different kinds of commitment people experience. This e-Doc is published by BrownHerron Publishing, with permission. BH SmartDocs offer global immediacy, delivering new ideas about managing and leading faster and more economically than any other form of publishing; they are sold exclusively by Amazon.com. -- Review

5.0 out of 5 stars The Art of Winning Commitment, May 16, 2002
This review is from: Convincing Minds and Moving Hearts (Digital)
Dick Richard's essay on winning commitment is both highly readable and full of valuable insights. It's especially important for those in the organizational world, who traditionally use just the "left brain", to think about the other side, the heart. The essay is an excellent and provocative argument for combining the mind and the heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for leaders at any career stage!, May 21, 2002

If you fancy yourself a leader, you'd better read this article. Let's be honest: most of us in positions of leadership fail to fully deliver, and we fail because we put too much faith in knowledge, intellect, and logic. Dick Richards sets us straight: if we leaders expect commitment, then winning peoples' minds is not enough; we must win their hearts as well. That takes a different, additional set of skills. Dick's article packs dynamite in a few pages!

5.0 out of 5 stars Working fertile ground; this one's a winner, May 15, 2002

I've begun to notice how frequently the phrase "winning hearts and minds" appears in the business literature but how infrequently business executives know anything of a practical nature as to how to do either. This beautifully written and mercifully short piece spells out the vast differences between the two and tells executives how to do both. I've worked extensively with top executives for 30 years and have been looking for this article the whole time....
