Conway Rocks....he certainly does!,

This review is from: Conway Rocks (Audio CD)
If you thought Conway Twitty was just a big haired country star from the 60's "Conway Rocks" is here to prove you wrong! The CD follows the transformation of Harold Lloyd Jenkins into a wild rock n' roller and his rise to early stardom. You will find all the passionate and powerful vocals that Conway brought to his wild rockabilly, rock n' roll and pop hits from the 50's and early 60's....heck, and the musicianship aint bad either!"Conway Rocks" is done in the meticulous fashion that accompanies all Bear Family CD's....original masters, superb quality pressing, authoritative/ thorough booklet and complete discography of the recordings. Standouts on the album are "Rock House" (yep he wrote it), "I Vibrate (From My Head to My Feet), "Rebound" and "Lonely Blue Boy".

For all of the country songs Jerry Lee Lewis recorded, he's still remembered primarily for his early rock and roll. Conway Twitty's RNR days, save for "It's Only Make Believe", are all but forgotten. This album brings back most of those songs which followed "Make Believe". Most memorable is "Lonely Blueboy" which continued his popularity in many parts of the country. There is also 1960's "Is A Bluebird Blue?" with strings and all like the post-Clyde McPhatter Drifters. Of course included are Conway's unsentimental rocking versions of "Danny Boy" and "Mona Lisa". The last one I actually remember from his rock days is 1962's "It's Driving Me Wild", not a great hit, but it would be 3 more years before he changed to doing country music (against others' advice). Missing on this CD is a respectable cover version of Ruth Brown's "Oh, What a Dream" and the odd choice (for Conway Twitty) of "C'est Si Bon". This is a compilation worth having.

Another great 50's rock'n'roller you won't want to miss!,

It's surely a great package of songs from Conway and comprehensive booklet included as well. If you don't want to buy 8CD box set from Bear Family called "The Rock'N'Roll Years" then try this one.
