Book Description

September 2004
There’s never been an easier way to make delicious, authentic Indian food than with this foolproof process. Each recipe is divided into 3 segments: ingredients, preparation, and method. The fresh, simply prepared ingredients are organized into numbered bowls. Put them all together, following the numbered steps for cooking. It’s amazing that such totally uncomplicated techniques result in such mouth-watering Indian dishes as Josht Chashidargh (sweet-and-sour Indian beef) and Kulei (rich, exotic Indian ice cream). Once you’ve stocked your cupboard with the basic necessities suggested here, you’ll be ready to experiment with recipes from a range of Indian classics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Indian dishes and easy to cook, April 11, 2005
This review is from: Cook by Numbers...Real Cooking Made Easy: Indian (Paperback)
I have used this book several times now when cooking for my family and friends. The recipes are easy to make when doing the right preparation upfront: putting the right ingredients in the bowls. The descriptions and shopping list are simple. There is a broad variety of dishes (meat, fish and vegetables) and they really taste great and very Indian. My kids favour the Chicked Tikka Massala, which has a nice sauce and not too spicy. I have several Indian cooking books but this one is my favorite.

2.0 out of 5 stars Hit or miss..., January 3, 2012
This review is from: Cook by Numbers...Real Cooking Made Easy: Indian (Paperback)
We've tried a variety of recipes from this book, and while some turned out great (I really like the red lentil dal) others have not. In some cases we wondered if we had done something wrong, but in others I think there are actual errors or poorly written recipes.

For instance, we just finished (and threw out most of) a batch of 'Royal Chicken', which was very time intensive and required a few difficult to find and pricey ingredients (saffron, fresh coconut). The cooking times didn't seem accurate (cook onions on low for 2 minutes, till brown - those are some fast browning onions! Also, the chicken ended up very undercooked), and the ingredient list called for only 1 teaspoon of yogurt to make enough sauce for 5 chicken legs. We added a full cup of yogurt and the bit of sauce we were able to eat was actually quite tasty.

I think we have given up on this recipe book, despite the fact that we really like the actual layout of the recipes - it shows you all the items, and groups those that go in at the same time as bowl 1, 2, 3, etc. to make it easier to follow through the recipe. Oh well, maybe a new edition could keep the winners and improve on the rest?

3.0 out of 5 stars some recipes were good, others were OK, July 9, 2006
This review is from: Cook by Numbers...Real Cooking Made Easy: Indian (Paperback)
well i got this book because i liked the way it was organized but i have a couple of complaints. 1. the author has changed the names of some of the recipes. the true indian name of the recipe is not the same as the one stated in the book, which to me just killed the authencity. 2. some recipes were not that good (at all) while most of them turned out great. so i just don't understand what happened. i followed the directions exactly as said in the book, and being indian i kinda of understood what it was supposed to look like, but maybe i did go wrong somewhere.
however, the book is well organized...he makes cooking indian food easy. i just wish he had more recipes and that ALL of them were good. generally though, my husband pretty much liked what came out of this book.
