RETURN,
By Jim (San Francisco Bay Area) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cook-Rite, 90308, Glass Candy and Deep Fry Thermometer (Kitchen)
The thermometer I received had a fatal flaw: the clip is made of aluminum, a soft metal.
When you clip the thermometer to the pot, the aluminum bends open. The sensing part of the thermometer then slides to and touches the edge of the pot. Since the pot is hotter than the liquid inside, the thermometer indicates the liquid is 5 to 10 degrees hotter it actually is, even after calibrating the thermometer.

Very nice,
This review is from: Cook-Rite, 90308, Glass Candy and Deep Fry Thermometer (Kitchen)
This is a very nice old style Candy Thermometer.
These glass ones are getting harder to find. I am an avid HomeBrewer and I can use this to check my boiling water in my kettle with ease. I know everyone now adays thinks that digital are great. But they are highly inaccurate unless you can afford an Infa-Red model. And they start around $90.00 and go up in the Thousands. This is accurate and will do what you need it to do.

I purchased this thermometer to measure the temp of my milk for making yogurt. The tip broke very easily. Though it was a very good price, I guess you get what you pay for.
