When I saw that there was going to be a new "Cook This Not That" I immediately pre-ordered it. I loved the previous books and had received numerous compliments on the meals I had made with the recipes. Unfortunately this is a major retread of the previous two editions. Many recipes appeared in the the others and many of the creative different ideas they gave you about creating healthy meals appear verbatim in this one. If you've never tried any of these books I would recommend it but I think people who have used the other books will be disappointed like me.

I've been reading these guys since the first ETNT book came out five
years ago. In total I have 5 of their books, including the first Cook
This, Not That and Grill This, Not That and I can say that this is my
favorite book of the series. It's surprising that it took them this
long to publish a book dedicated to comfort food, considering that
seems to be at the heart of the food they analyze nutritionally in the
other books. I'm glad they've finally come to their senses.

I can talk to you about the clever features at the beginning of each
chapter, the complete shopping guide, or the shocking lists of worst
restaurant food, but it's a cookbook, and the proof is on the plate.
I've cooked four recipes: the fried chicken (easily the best "oven"
fried chicken I've eaten, and up there with the best period), macaroni
and cheese (creamy, cheesy goodness for under 500 calories...worth it
for this recipe alone), the cioppino (a dish I had never eaten before,
but will now be a comfort staple of mine), and the French toast--which
is the only recipe that I didn't fall in love with, but my kids and my
husband seemed to enjoy it.

Their cookbooks work because they strike the right balance of culinary
and nutritional information. You learn how to cut calories from a meal
by making a smart supermarket purchase or using a simple technique,
but never at the expenses of the flavor of the dish. Unlike a lot of
other healthy cookbooks I've used, there are no cheap tricks here: no
applesauce for butter, no fat-free heavy cream, nothing like that. The
recipe style reminds me a lot of Mark Bittmans recipes, simple enough
for the inexperienced cook but sophisticated enough for those who know
their way around the kitchen. All in all, an excellent purchase.

I thought this would have something new to add. They basically changed the cover of the book and kept all the recipes from previous editions. Do not buy if you already own anything by these Authors.

I had pre-ordered this, too, and although it does have some recipes found in earlier books, there's enough new to keep me happy. David and Matt revived my interest in cooking, and i'm grateful to have some new recipes that are "skinny." Of my dozens of cookbooks over the years, this one will join their 350 calorie meals one as the only ones with a permanent spot on my kitchen counter. I live in Mexico part of the year, and this new one seems to have fewer specialty ingredients that I can't find there so this one is going with me.

MOSTLY BECAUSE OF THIS SERIES OF BOOKS. 75+/- GONE!!! I PURCHASE EVERY NEW ONE & OWN 10 OR (sorry for shouting) more actual books, as well as downloaded on my new kindle, duplicates of books I already own. So much easier than bringing 3 to 4 books from house to work to car. Love my kindle, too. These are my weight loss Bibles. Friends & family ask how hard it was, what did I do. It was so easy I still can't believe it! Am at a plateau, but have kept off (other than 5 lbs up & down) what I lost for for more than 5 months. Winter sucks! I also recommend Rocco DiSpirito, Eat This Now, excellent recipes & Hungry Girl(minus EVERYTHING being fat free. Low fat works if you're aware of your portions. Also, bought all my books through Amazon. Used like New. And every one was like new! For a fraction of the cost. Good Luck and Don't Give Up!

I own the other Cook This, Not That books, and this one is by far my favorite. I don't think there's a single food I've ever craved that's not included! I only noticed a few recipes repeated from the other books, but they were all such classic "comfort foods" that I didn't mind. Love that the emphasis is on flavors and ingredients that happen to be low-cal, not just reduced fat/diet ingredients like other weight loss cookbooks. The Spinach and Ham Mac and Cheese is definitely a new favorite!

I have yet to make something out of this cook book that I didn't love. Everything just turns out delicious!! And the best part of it all is that it's good healthy food. I've gotten into the habbit of trying a new recipe every Sunday and it's something I look forward to all week. You won't be disappointed with this cook book and if you are, you're doing something wrong.

I had decided to lose weight (have done this time after time just to gain it back). I needed something that was not a diet but was just common sense. These guys were a God send. It is a common sense approach. The suggestions have been great. The recipes that I have tried have been excellent and better still they actually showed me that my eating and cooking habits had been the biggest reason for my weight gain. We need more of these books that show you that you can eat well and still lose. I would recommend it to anyone.
