5.0 out of 5 stars Buy a Scale
Honestly if I can buy US cook books and cope with using cup measurements and figure out that zucchini means courgette I'm sure fellow US cooks can do the reverse. Try buying a set of scales and using google to figure out the ingredients

Excellent ideas on how to lighten up recipes! This is the British version of the new "Cook your Way Thin" Lifetime show. Measures are Metric and recipes have a more European flair. More for the adventurous type. Will take some effort, not for the faint of heart in the kitchen!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cook Yourself Thin and Cook Yourself Thin Faster, May 1, 2010
This review is from: Cook Yourself Thin (Paperback)
Both books are available in the American measuring system, use our familiar words for ingredients, and are really good. If you bought the British version, either adapt by buying a scale and using google like mentioned before or sell your book and buy the ones with the little black dress on the cover. One is a white cover, the other is light blue. You will not regret it, those recipes are awesome. I don't do diets, don't believe in them. This is really about substitution and integrating more veggies into your diet. Really scrumptious meals that leave you feeling like you ate really well without it being heavy.Cook Yourself Thin: Skinny Meals You Can Make in Minutes (Voice)Cook Yourself Thin Faster: Have Your Cake and Eat It Too with Over 75 New Recipes You Can Make in a Flash!

3.0 out of 5 stars The second book is better, April 14, 2010

We liked the second book: Skinny Meals You Can Make in Minutes" much better. This book has heavy British terms used that, although charming at times, lead to us not understanding what the terms meant. My wife sends me to the grocery store looking for a steak cutr under the British terms and the butcher had no idea what we were looking for. I had to come home and seach the term on the net to find the American term for the cut of meat. The diet is fabulous though and we highly recommend the other book.

I was confused at first when I saw g and ml and then realized that this book was for people on the metric system. Further to that I have no idea of what the following ingredients are: muscovado sugar,Parma ham, rocket, rose harissa, courgettes, belazu smoked chilli jelly and flageolet beans to name of few. The final verdict--I should not have bought this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars great disappointment, June 5, 2009

I am so very disappointed with this book. The recipes are so different from the ones I've seen on their TV show. They use ingredients that are new and/or unavailable in my area.

Also, the metric system is unfamiliar to me as well as weighing flour & other items rather than measuring them in a cup.

I wouldn't recognize the recipes as being from the same people I see on the TV program.

I gave the book away! She will probably do the same!

Book received in good condition. Recipes are in English gram measures, so that's a bit of a challenge. I think anyone would love the recipes.

From what I gathered - this is one of the original books that came out, before the TV series on Lifetime. The recipes are different, from the ones made on the TV series, which is what I was looking for. I'm vegetarian, and try to convert some of the meat recipes to meatless or use fake meat - and it works for the most part. If you haven't gotten any of this series - I suggest getting the one from the TV series, because you can see (on Lifetime) how they made them. . .but this one does have some good recipes, too - and it's all better for you. A few things to know about this book: 1. The recipes use gram measurements - instead of cups, but once you get this straight - the quiz at the front is helpful to targeting ways to avoid temptation and the other hints and information are useful, too.
