About the Author

Phyllis Pellman Good is editor of Festival Quarterly, a magazine exploring the art, faith, and culture of Mennonite peoples. She and her husband, Merle, oversee The People's Place and the Old Country Store. Phyllis is the author of several books, among them Cooking and Memories.

Rachel Thomas Pellman is the manager of the Old Country Store in Intercourse, Pennsylvania, which features quilts, crafts, and toys by more than 200 Amish and Mennonite craftspersons. Rachel and her husband, Kenny, are co-authors of The World of Amish Quilts and its companion book, Amish Quilt Patterns.

I have all of these adorable little 'Cook Books from Amish Kitchens', and have really enjoyed them. The are very small and simple... the complete opposite of a coffee-table/display-style cookbooks we see most often today. This is a thin pamphlet with matte paper and does not include interior photos of any recipes (excluding the cover). The text is in a handwritten-style font and clearly explained. The recipes are very homey with basic ingredients and techniques; nothing fancy. Simple, delicious recipes in a simple, small booklet. RECOMMENDED.

This little book started out great with Apple Strudel (YUM) and Apple Dumplings (YUM YUM) onto Cracker Pudding, Tapioca Pudding (is that a real food product?), then things like Cottage Steam Pudding, Grapenut Pudding, Zucchini Bars and other desserts that didn't sound awfully appetizing to me. But if you're into Sunbeam Tapioca (?) then this book is for you.

I only gave it three stars because of the contents. I'm VERY happy with the Seller and with Amazon. After all of the Amish cook books I've ordered, enjoyed and plan to use, I would suggest that you eat a very hearty dinner before dessert. However, you can only hope that your desserts come from the PIES Cook Book which contains wonderful recipes.

I cannot recommend this book because I wouldn't buy it had I seen it first.
