This is a very attractive cookbook. The illustrations are gorgeous, the cookies LOOK great in the photos. The problem comes in making the recipes. The first I chose (Rocky Road cookies) described the cookies as having wonderful coconut flavor. Reading the ingredients list I doubted very much that there was ANY coconut flavor and that was okay, I was baking for an event and many folks do not love coconut. I made them, they were excellent and gorgeous. And did NOT taste at ALL of coconut. Typo maybe.

I decided to try another recipe. This time I picked Smilies. I wanted to bake with my 3 year old daughter and this seemed the perfect recipe. Again, the ingredients list is a clue. There is nothing to bind the dough together enough to cut shapes and nothing but sugar and butter to flavor the "vanilla" portion of the dough. Since I had a child who wanted to cut out cookies I decided to add a beaten egg to the dough and it worked just fine, but they taste very bland. Not sure I am going to try another round with this book - the results are just too mixed to be worth it.

I too collect cookbooks and own many, nearly all baking. This is one that I would not recommend.

I was really disapointed by the recipes... the pictures are great (only half the recipes have a picture tough), the layout too, but the recipes are bland... I specially resent the constant use of fondant to cover the cookies...

Unique cookie recipes along with some cute creative shape ideas -one of my favorite and best cookie cookbooks - and I have over 400 cookbooks - two thirds of them baking related. Bellefontaine's What's Cooking Chocolate is fabulous as well. HIGHLY RECOMMEND to any cookie baker!
