Coltrane vs Rollins, December 20, 2007

Nice album of hard to post bop jazz. Both tenor players have their own individual sounds inpired by the past greats. Grant has a real fat, old school tone and is very much steeped in Dexter, Mobley and Rollins which, really comes through in his playing. Eric also has a great sound which is more Coltrane-ish and plays with a slightly more modern approach to the jazz language than Grant. Together, these two guys are as close as we are going to get to hearing 50's Coltrane and Rollins going head to head in the studio (othere than tenor madness of course).
