5.0 out of 5 stars another great compliation from a great magazine
Cooking Light is fantastic as always- this includes all the year's recipes as well as a few of the articles that appeared in the magazines.

The only potential complaint is that the index isn't very user friendly. There is a by-month index as well as a general recipe index, but if you don't know the name of the recipie I've found it to be a challenge to find...

3.0 out of 5 stars Cooking Light 2005 (pretty much pictureless cookbook)
Although I really like the Cooking Light magazine, I found that I wasn't as thrilled with the cookbook as I thought I'd be, since there were hardly any photographs. Being a visual person, I like and pretty much need to see the picture of the finished dish before I make it. Now although this magazine has an abundance of recipes, which are probably very good, I'm not sure...

4.0 out of 5 stars Another wonderful Cooking Light cook book!, February 4, 2005

This review is from: Cooking Light Annual Recipes (Hardcover)
I've been a subscriber to Cooking Light magazine for several years now and I still love it. I got the 2005 book as gift and added it to my Cooking Light collection. The photographs in the book are beautiful and mouth-watering, but there are not enough (I like to see what the final product looks like when I am cooking). I do like that the nutritional information including calories, fat, protein, carb, fiber are listed for each recipe. I do find that many of the recipes have a long prep time and this a deterrent for me at this busy stage in my life. For the "true" chef, though, there will be no problem and the recipes will be wonderful to make. Generally, the ingredients are readily available, but for some of the recipes, there are ingredients that I have no idea where to buy them. The book is organzied by month--like the magazine. Really, overall, a beautiful book. Oh! I did make the cover recipe--it is REALLY GOOD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Cookbook!, September 29, 2005
This review is from: Cooking Light Annual Recipes (Hardcover)
This cookbook is wonderful! My friend recommended it to me and she was right! It's so great. Lots of pictures with recipes that use everyday ingredients (for the most part) and are so different, tasteful, and refreshing. Everything I've tried in it has been a hit. Honestly, I don't buy too many cookbooks because I tend not to use them.....but this one....I will!

5.0 out of 5 stars Get into the kitchen with this book!, March 22, 2005
By
Yoga Sponge "tech_nut" (Pittsburgh, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cooking Light Annual Recipes (Hardcover)
I have several of the last Cooking Light Annual Recipes books, and I have cooked many delicious, successful recipes out of them. Don't let the idea of "light" cooking scare you... it has never been CL's methodology to present food with fewer calories and fat while sacrificing the flavor and appeal. If you want to experience the way America *should* eat-- healthily, but with great pleasure-- then these recipes are the real deal.

You may never cook all of the recipes in the book, but if you even complete a percentage, you will have gotten your money's worth out of it, rest assured. The recipes are well-rounded in terms of flavor, nutrient balance, fair portion size, appearance, and nutrition.

While I don't mind the lack of photos, it's true that others might find that a problem. All I can say is "Don't let it hold you back. Get annoyed, then get into the kitchen!"

I suspect that in order to present this great collection of recipes in any sort of economical way, the photographic content had to be cut down. I applaud this move myself... cost is a legitimate factor in deciding how badly I want the book.

You'd be better off keeping that money to spend on the wonderful ingredients that you'll find yourself buying... and learning about. That being said, there are also plenty of good-old traditional-ingredient recipes if you aren't into new things.

But the way I see it, the 'hunter-seeker' in you should delight in the adventure of the ingredient search, the assembling of the 'weapons' in the kitchen, and later... the wonderful aromas and the smiling faces as the dish is served. So... get into the kitchen!

This composite of the year's recipes is good, as usual. Would like to see included some of the cooking tips that are in the monthly issues, although I recognize that would make the book very large.
Good indexing, and recipes are excellent.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cooking Frustrated, August 25, 2006
This review is from: Cooking Light Annual Recipes (Hardcover)
Contrary to the high praise this cookbook gets from most of the reviewers, I find it one of the most frustrating cookbooks I own (and I own a lot). My three stars really reflect the excellent recipes, not the book. They are superb as one would expect if at all familiar with the magazine. The problem is its organization with the added difficulty of a poor and incomplete index. The organization by months of the year is useless if one is looking to plan a meal. When I have halibut, I am not interested in searching for the appropriate month before fiinding the recipe. To top it off, the extremely poor editiing and layout completes the annoyance. I use it, but only occasionally.

This book is filled with mouth watering, can't wait to try recipes. The ingredients are easily found in a neighborhood grocery store. This is definitely a favorite of mine. I, however, do not enjoy 2004 Annual recipes. There is not a comparison between the two in my opinion.

I have been trying to get this volume from the publisher and it has been sold out for many years. Never did I think to look at Amazon.com, but found it and was thrilled to get a new copy, in perfect condition for a much cheaper price. Good book and excellent recipes.
