I owned and used this book for many years before moving on to more adventurous cooking. Like all the Better Homes and Gardens cookbooks, this one has good, standard American fare -- proportioned for two. Some of the recipes truly are "gourmet", but most are easy to prepare, reliably good preparations. At the price of the used editions that are available through Amazon, this book is well worth the tiny investment -- particularly for the young cook just starting out in the kitchen and interested in learning without having to muddle through long descriptions of basic cooking techniques.
