Book Description

January 1, 2010

100 recipes using the complex flavors of wines, beers, and spirits.

From brunch to desserts, risottos to barbecue, this cookbook uses the liquor cabinet as an extension of the spice rack. Each of the 100 recipes takes advantage of the unique seasoning abilities of wines, beers, and spirits, and even includes a "cocktail to cook by."

Some of the innovative recipes are:

  • Grand Marnier French Toast
  • Lime Tequila Shrimp
  • Roasted Red Pepper Gazpacho
  • Champagne and French Herb Risotto
  • Royal Beefeater Burgers
  • Roast Pork with Peaches and Ginger
  • B-52 Cupcakes

Developed for the everyday cook, the recipes are skillfully written to help readers develop a "cooking with booze" sensibility, that is, how a buttery wine can enrich a sauce or how a smoky rum can make a cake sing. The authors also offer ideas for conversation starters and a collection of themes for get-togethers ranging from a Robbie Burns Scotch-tasting to a romantic midsummer night's picnic. The book is capped off with an alcohol index that includes flavor notes, an alcohol content table, and suggested substitutions for almost every type of booze on the planet.

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!, December 4, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cooking With Booze (Paperback)
This is a fantastic book. Seriously... FANTASTIC!
Full color photos. Every recipe is amazing.

Desserts, appetizers, main dishes, formal dishes, informal dishes, pasta, BBQ, soups, salads, breakfast items, pastries.
Beef, chicken, seafood, pork, lamb...cornish hens, brats, ribs, many vegetarian.

The booze is a smartly matching flavor, not just a throw in.

The book is a larger size with an easy to read font. Recipes are bold and double spaced. The pictures are full page and magnified!

It should of been nominated for cookbook of the year in 2006.

EDIT: how did I miss it? There's a drink recipe at the bottom of every food recipe! Almost 90+ from Mojitos to Hurricanes to champagne based drinks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic cook book, March 28, 2008
This review is from: Cooking With Booze (Paperback)
This is the best addition to my cooking library that I've ever come across. I've already gifted it to several friends as well.

No other book I've found has such a range of recipes that are so huge in the flavor factor: it's rumored that cooking with booze is a good dietary aid as well, since the alcohol adds so much flavor you are content with eating less or adding less fatty substitutions in the food. I believe it truely now, my family and friends prefer anything out of this book due the largeness of the flavors.
