"Celebrat[ing] the culinary arts....at the highest level"

Season 3 actually lives up to this promise! There was nothing high-level or high-class about season 2 with the exception of Padma Lakshmi as the replacement host/judge for Katie Lee Joel of season 1. Katie Lee Joel was an awkward and uncertain presence in an otherwise strong opening season. Padma Lakshmi, gorgeous former supermodel and cookbook author, lights up the screen and adds style gracefully and naturally to the show. Head judge Tom Colicchio seems more confident and relaxed with her by his side.

Why was season 3 so successful? Two main reasons. A surprising number of season 3 contestants were, how else can I put it... well, actually cool. Tall, dark and handsome Tre, Jennifer Aniston look-alike who can really cook Casey, intensely talented Hung, amusing and laid-back CJ, among others. They were a really fun bunch to watch. And the second equally important reason: some high-end challenges.

The Manhattan Project and the Finale in Colorado were my favorites (no offense at all to Miami where the rest of the main competition took place). Cooking for Sirio Maccioni at Le Cirque and then cooking for the faculty at the French Culinary Institute just took the cake! Getting Daniel Boulud, Eric Ripert, Todd English, and Michelle Bernstein as guest judges was quite a coup!

Admittedly, there are some pedestrian episodes: bbq, frozen food, and roach coach cooking, but there are others to make up for it. There's a very fun mise-en-place relay race (to determine which team can shuck, chop, hack and beat the fastest) and a highly amusing (if you are exhausted) supermarket challenge (Aisle Style) which shows when NOT to take a challenge seriously!

There is no way a season of Top Chef I haven't seen yet would disappoint. But as soon as I started to watch it, I remembered why I haven't been using Amazon Instant Video. Really? No closed captioning. Millions of us need it. We depend on it. And when it is not there, we miss a lot of dialogue. Now, I realize it might be Bravo's fault and not Amazon's, and maybe somewhere in the fine print, Amazon alerted us that there is no closed captioning. But I didn't see it. In 2013, accommodations for people who have disabilities are an expectation, not a bonus add-on. This would have five stars for sure if it had closed captioning. Listen up, Amazon, because the hearing impaired can't listen up!

This is a fantastic season. Good mix of chefs, great challenges, love it. Season 4 is my favorite, but this would be my second favorite hands down. Casey & Dale are awesome :D

Top chef is one of my favorite cooking shows and I'm enjoying watching the chefs on this season. Not all of them are rock stars like some of the seasons, but overall, very entertaining!

I'm enjoying the parts of episodes I've managed to see, but I'm having trouble with streaming issues on my iPad. I keep getting error messages. Still working on watching on different devices to see if that helps. I have a fast network, so I can't figure out what is the issue. I LOVE Top Chef and wish the first three seasons were also on DVD to complete my set. Streaming will be the next best thing to having the shows on DVD.

UPDATE: Streaming is much better on my TV through my Wii. Downloading the Amazon Prime Channel and registering it was a breeze using my computer and Wii. I'm hoping this will fix my streaming issue and bring my review up to 4 stars.

Just like Top Chef 1 and 2, the show is get. However, just like Top Chef 1 and 2, the quality of the download is poor. It's like someone taped it on VHS and them transferred it. Also paid $5 dollars more for Season 3 then I did Season 1 and 2.
