5.0 out of 5 stars Good Catch!, August 28, 2009
By
This review is from: Cooking the Catch (Hardcover)
As a Montana native now living in Massachusetts, I've always felt a little out of my element in fish markets. I spend a lot of time vacationing on Cape Cod, but after all these years when I walk into a fish market I'm not really sure what to expect. What's in season? What do I do with the leftovers? I love great fresh food, simply prepared and this cookbook has given me the guidance I need to survive New England coastal cooking. In addition, the stories that accompany the recipes are entertaining and reflect the author's huge personality. Wish I cook with him someday!

5.0 out of 5 stars nice book, nice author, March 11, 2011
This review is from: Cooking the Catch (Hardcover)
I heard of Pops from a monthly article in a local fishing mag. A very homely person, pleasant guy. I can't think of a better book for people who want to take their catch from the water to the grill or pan for the first time. It's bare bones, but in a very tasty way. At no point will you look at these recipes and think "hell I'm not gonna gut the fish and THEN do all this prep for the cooking". Most likely you're going to gut the fish, throw some olive oil and garlic in a pan, and season the catch with salt and pepper. He's got a lot of side dishes and interesting sauces in their too. It's a good range of simple and filling recipes.
