5.0 out of 5 stars What a great cookbook. I have them ALL!!!
First let me say that I am an avid fan of JoAnna Lund. She has made it so much easier to have a healthier lifestyle by giving us such great cookbooks. Her recipes are easy to make, taste great, and are low fat, low/no sugar, and are definitely family pleasers.

My husband loves these recipes too. In fact, we like her recipes so much that I have personally purchased...

3.0 out of 5 stars If You Like Canned Soup and Sugar Twin, You're in Luck!
I first tried the recipies from this book when a friend of the family made them for a barbeque. I asked her the secret of her good cooking when I saw all the men (and women) gobble up what she made.

This book is very good at taking good, old fashioned, home skillet cooking and making savvy, health-conscious substitutions. Overall, I found that the recipes were easy to...

In fact, we like her recipes so much that I have personally purchased all of her cookbooks.

Whether you just want to eat healhier, or need to watch your fat or sugar intake you can use ALL of these recipes. Every single recipe has the nutritional value, Healthy Exchanges breakdown (JoAnna's plan), and Diabetic Exchanges. If you are following the Weight Watchers plan, you will be able to convert each recipe into points without a problem.

This cookbook shows just how easy it is to eat REAL FOOD not rabbit food to be healthy. Recipes work well too for those wanting to drop a few pounds. JoAnna's Healthy Exchange program is explained in the front of the book.

I know if you try just one of her books, you will be hooked and want more.

5.0 out of 5 stars A cookbook to live by!, October 29, 1997
By
This review is from: Cooking Healthy with a Man in Mind (Hardcover)
A friend loaned me her copy of this book and within a day I knew I had to have my own. This book changed mine and my husband's life - literally. Our cholesterol levels were terrible and we had to do something. Within three months of cooking with Healthy Exchanges, both our cholesterol levels have dropped significantly as well as our weight. Mrs. Lund's easy to read, easy to make and delicious to eat recipes have made new people out of us. So many recipe books require fancy gadgets and unheard of ingredients, but Mrs. Lund's recipes are down-to-earth made with readily accessible ingredients and they taste so good that you can hardly believe they are low-fat and sugar-free. The recipes are simple and fast to fix which is important to a full-time working woman like myself. I find myself making up recipes ahead as most of her recipes keep well in the refrigerator and freeze well, also. This book runs the gamut from soups, salads, main dishes, sides dishes, desserts and snacks. I highly recommend it to anyone needing to lose weight, lower their cholesterol and blood sugar levels or they just want a change of pace in their eating habits. It is going to take me awhile to get through all those recipes but I find myself looking at this book daily to see what I am going to make next. You can actually eat desserts and what yummy desserts they are, too! After awhile, it does become a way of life - eating the Healthy Exchanges way!

3.0 out of 5 stars If You Like Canned Soup and Sugar Twin, You're in Luck!, December 21, 2000

This review is from: Cooking Healthy with a Man in Mind (Hardcover)
I first tried the recipies from this book when a friend of the family made them for a barbeque. I asked her the secret of her good cooking when I saw all the men (and women) gobble up what she made.

This book is very good at taking good, old fashioned, home skillet cooking and making savvy, health-conscious substitutions. Overall, I found that the recipes were easy to make and involved minimal preparation.

Here are a few notes: 1.) Many, many of the recipes involve canned soup (mushroom, in particular) used as a sauce or garnish. If you do not enjoy soup, or canned foods in general, this is not the cookbook to buy. 2.) A number of the recipes involve a product called "Sugar Twin" (aka "Sweet and Low," "Equal," "NutraSweet"). Some people are very sensitive to the taste of this. If you are one of these people (are cooking for one of these people), this is a cookbook to avoid. 3.) This book is very light on photos. Therefore, you won't be able to see pictures of a "finished product." 4.) Lund (the author) based the book on the "Healthy Exchanges" eating program. Admittedly, I was not/am not familiar with this program. However, if you are, you'll likely find this book helpful as it is based upon that dietary plan/philosophy.

If you're looking for a way to cut fat and sugar in a painless way for you, "your man," and/or your children, this is a nice addition to your cookbook collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Healthy ways to make great meals that will please all, August 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Cooking Healthy with a Man in Mind (Hardcover)
Our family has been using the recipes in this book for over a year now and we have not eaten anything that we didn't like. We have used these recipes for daily meals, potlucks, holidays, when the "gang" drops over, you name it. Everyone has gobbled every last bite up. Also, my husband's blood pressure has improved due to losing 10 pounds and keeping it off. I have also lost 10 pounds. May not sound like much but we'd rather lose it and not feel deprived than gain it and gorge ourselves with saturated fat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Informative Cookbook on the Market, January 8, 2000
This review is from: Cooking Healthy with a Man in Mind (Hardcover)
For those who are trying to lose weight yet cook for a man's hearty appetite, this is the ultimate book to own. It has a wealth of information prior to the recipes that every dieter should read. Ms.Lund includes a list of brand names that she has personally tried and also how to make fat free grocery items taste really good. I am a diabetic and she also has the exchange values included for each recipe. If you can only buy one cookbook, this is it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best cookbook in the collection!, June 8, 2000

This review is from: Cooking Healthy with a Man in Mind (Hardcover)
I am an avid fan of JoAnna Lund - I have every one of her cookbooks - but this one outweighs them all. My husband is a very picky eater, and he loves the recipes from this book. They are easy to make, delicious to eat, and will become a family favorite! I highly recommend this book - you won't be sorry!

3.0 out of 5 stars Desserts are good, but rest is average, September 6, 2000

After trying several recipes, I am a bit disappointed in this book. Joanna uses tomato sauce or tomato soup in almost every recipe - even the beef stroganoff used tomato soup and while it wasn't awful, it was as strange as it sounds. And why would anyone use canned peas &/or mushrooms when fresh ones are readily available and taste MUCH better (not to mention they are more nutritious). I found most of the recipes filling but very bland - healthy food doesn't have to be like this.

The desserts are good, though - it may be worth the money for those alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recipies are fantastic, August 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Cooking Healthy with a Man in Mind (Hardcover)
Recieved the book as a gift from my mom. Have yet to find one recipie to be bad. I am on a Low fat, cholesterol, and sugar diet. The flavor of these recipies would fool anyone that didn't know they were healthy for them.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!!!! I didn't know "diet" could taste so good!, April 24, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Cooking Healthy with a Man in Mind (Hardcover)
This book puts other diet books to shame. The ingredients are available at your local grocery store. The recipes are easy and the best part is they taste good. My 135 lb husband loves the recipes even though they're low fat, they taste like the originals (some are even better). We can now have desserts again without worrying
