This is one of my favorite cookbooks! It has some of the best food photography I've ever seen, making it both very easy and very hard to pick a recipe to make since you know what each dish looks like, but EVERYTHING looks good.
I'm an avid cook, and love to cook with all sorts of herbs and spices, but this book taught me quite a bit, which is something I love in a cookbook. It's more than a collection of fantastic recipes, it also has excellent introductions and a glossary with loads of information about the herbs and spices used and the exotic dishes themselves. You'll find herbs and spices you'd never heard of, like epazote, sumac, and ajowan seeds, as well as familiar favorites like cinnamon, thyme, and parsley. Each recipe is also very detailed to make it easy to follow, with lots of good tips thrown in to improve the results. The recipes inside span a wide variety of cuisines, but each is authentically presented. About half the dishes are authentic foreign recipes, from Thai to Persian, while the other half are interesting original creations. So far I haven't found a single recipe that hasn't turned out fantastically well. In short, I'd definitely recommend it! It's also a great gift for any cook.
