A year's worth of the best light dishes,
By D. Donovan, Editor/Sr. Reviewer "California B... (California, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cooking Light Annual Recipes 2006 (Hardcover)
COOKING LIGHT ANNUAL RECIPES 2006 gathers a year's worth of Cooking Light Magazine dishes, from Spicy Pickled Beans and Breakfast Sausage Casserole to a Chicken Broccoli Casserole. A centerfold of color photos enhances sidebars of information and a appealing primer on dishes which have been 'lightened' for the new year. Both are outstanding recommendations.

While this is a summary of the magazine's recipes it is well organized and easy to reference. Easy to follow instructions are a definite plus. For once, cooking without a degree in rocket science being required.

I used to subscribe to Cooking Light magazine, until I found out they publish these 1/yr. It's got all their recipes in there. I've got every year since 2001. I usually try a new recipe a couple times/month and every one I've tried turns out good and tasty. Would definitely recommend this.

I love to cook, and I love healthy food. These cookbooks are amazing: huge, exhaustive, roughly seasonal, easy, varied, and best of all? Nutritional information is given for each recipe. This is almost unheard of in cookbooks and I find it really useful to glance over and get a sense of the content of each meal. I'm a relatively picky eater and a sometimes food snob but I hate the notion that really fine food is generally unhealthy (lots of butter, meat, etc). I love cooking from these cookbooks and while I wouldn't make everything, I find plenty to make the purchase worthwhile. It's very comprehensive, and organized by magazine issue/month of the year. Though each volume is for a particular year, I have purchased several prior years and find them all relevant and delicious. I don't have a subscription to this magazine and would prefer to simply buy the annual recipes each year. If the cookbook were not published, however, I would subscribe to the publication. It's a great balance of health, good ingredients, and great flavors.

My favorite cookbook,

We were given this cookbook and at the time, I stuffed it into my already over-crowded cabinet with the other cookbooks. But in the last year I've been trying more recipes and this has proven to be a family favorite for finding tasty recipes, that are healthier than the standard "Joy of Cooking" type. I would highly recommend this particular year to anyone. And yes, it's a bit difficult to figure out how to navigate at first, but there are 3 indexes in the back, one of which is organized by ingredient type. That seems to be my best bet when I want to find a general recipe quickly...

Great everyday cookbook!,

I ordered the 2006 and 2007 edition from Amazon after using the 2008 and 2009 for two weeks. Every week, I go through all four books and pick new recipes to try. I make the ingredient list and I go grocery shopping during the weekend. With this weekly format, I have thrown away less food and saved more money. My boyfriend and I loved every meal so far! I love the format of the book. It has allowed me to go through the book and pick recipes at random, which makes dinner time an adventurous experience. These books have given me a renewed passion in cooking at home.

Easy to follow recipies.,
This review is from: Cooking Light Annual Recipes 2006 (Hardcover)
I am a big fan of Cooking Light. The recipies are easy to follow. You may want to check the on-line reviews for a recipe you are going to try. The suggestions might be helpful. The only problem I had with purchasing this cookbook was the shipping time. When ordering from the Amazon warehouse (even if shipping one state away) it takes an unbelievably LONG time for them to process and ship!!!

Great,
This review is from: Cooking Light Annual Recipes 2006 (Hardcover)
I never believed that I would have enough patience for cooking. That is until I came across Cooking Light at my friends place a few months ago... She let me take it home to try some of the recipes that I found interesting. What happened next? I actually stopped going out for dinner day by day and started cooking on my own. The meals that I create now are not only tasty, but they also let me keep my weight within limits, as I am now in charge of what is going into the meals that will land on my dish. This magazine helped me change my eating habits, indeed. Also recommended
