Book Description

August 17, 2010
"Cooking Light", the leading healthy cooking magazine, presents "First Foods", a fresh, reliable take on feeding babies and toddlers. The movement toward making baby food, considering the quality of food given to young children, and being mindful of the impact this has on the world and a child's future health more than a trend-it's a way of life. Chapters follow the natural development of baby - from weaning to exploring new textures, to trying new foods and creating healthy food habits. Carolyn Williams, registered dietician and mummy to a growing toddler, developed each recipe and shares her expert advice in the pages of "First Foods". Each recipe - from baby's first tastes of Blueberry-Banana Yogurt or Lentils with Sweet Potatoes to a toddler's meal of Cheese Broccoli and Potatoes or Butternut Squash and Spinach Lasagne to snacks such as Banana Pops and Avocado Yogurt Dip is dietician created "Cooking Light" Test Kitchen tested, and baby approved. A special panel of babies and toddlers tasted each recipe, giving these dishes road-tested appeal.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Baby Shower Gift November 28, 2010
Format:Hardcover-spiral
This is a book I wish I had when my children were babies. The information is just what parents need as they navigate through the development of their baby's eating habits.

The book has a chart outlining when to introduce foods, and addresses food allergies and how to avoid them, as well as distinguishing the difference between a real food allergy and a food intolerance. Advice is given concerning organic vs. non-organic, frozen vs. fresh, suggested processing tools such as food mills, what foods should never be given to a baby under 12 months old and why, and so much more I also liked the "at our house" segments throughout the book - real life stories from parents about how they handled food issues with their children.

With over 100 recipes from first food purees to foods toddlers and young children will enjoy, this book is a valuable source of information. It is spiral bound which is always a plus for a cookbook, and has lots of great color photos, including some of the most adorable babies.

This book will be my gift of choice for anyone I know who is having their first child.

I was given a copy of this book to review by the publisher but the opinion is my own and was not solicited. If I didn't like it, I would say so.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Informative June 8, 2011
Format:Hardcover-spiral
I was delighted with the quality receipes in this book but what I found most helpful was all the additional information highlighted in the book. They covered topics such as; what and how much they should be eating, and at what age, storing baby food, etc. They addressed a daunting topic like making your own baby food and made it easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of recipes! October 10, 2011
Format:Hardcover-spiral|Amazon Verified Purchase
I really like this cookbook because it doesn't assume you have one type of baby food maker. I also like how it has age-appropriate recipes throughout the toddler years! I really don't think you need any other cookbook for baby food if you get it because you can pretty much use these recipes with many different things (ex: it also gives you hints to use avocado when you go out because it's easy to mash up).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book! September 30, 2010
Format:Hardcover-spiral
What an excellent book on how to begin your baby's journey into eating solid foods as healthy as possible. Lots of great recipes that are, as they say, "Kitchen Tested and Baby Approved". They really are scrumptious! I highly recommend.

2.0 out of 5 stars Half of the book is useless June 3, 2012
Format:Hardcover-spiral|Amazon Verified Purchase
The first half is telling you to steam, boil, or bake a veg or fruit the purée. Wasted space. The wholesome baby food website is much better and free.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful baby / family cookbook! November 28, 2011
Format:Hardcover-spiral|Amazon Verified Purchase
I purchased this cookbook towards my baby's first birthday so I cannot comment on the baby food recipes. The toddler recipes are wonderful! My baby loves the food and so does my husband. It is so nice to be able to cook once and feed both of them! The recipes are easy to follow and contain healthy foods!
