Fabulous!,
This review is from: Cooking for the Week : Leisurely Weekend Cooking for Easy WeekDAY Meals (Paperback)
Cooking for the Week : Leisurely Weekend Cooking for Easy WeekDAY Meals by Diane Morgan, et alThis is one of the better cookbooks I have seen. The book is well written, the recipes are clear and easy to follow, not to mention delicious. I recommend this book to anyone who has asked themselves what to do with leftovers or said that there is nothing in the house to eat. This book will get you thinking in a new, better, way about menu planning.

On the go gourmets try this book!,

My wife and I recently purchased this book with the hopes of being able to plan ahead for the week with a gourmet twist. This book has exceeded our expectations in every way possible. The meals are not only fun to prepare, but have gotten rave reviews with everyone we have shared them with. The book contains a broad selection of menus with varied meats as the theme. This versatility has really kept us trying each set of meals. We have currently tried the first two weeks and are excited about the remaining eleven. The chocolate cheesecake for week one is outstanding. If you like cheesecake, this recipe alone is worth the price of the book. The pepper crusted tuna with grilled asparagus and grilled potatoes will keep you coming back for more. If you are a person who enjoys cooking good food, but also enjoys a very busy and active life, then this book is for you. Enjoy and bon apetite.

Great concept and easily scaled down if you're single,
This review is from: Cooking for the Week : Leisurely Weekend Cooking for Easy WeekDAY Meals (Paperback)
This is an excellent alternative to just eating the same old leftovers the next day. The genius of this cookbook is that by planning for leftovers, you end up spending less and wasting less food & money. They're easily scaled down to 2-serving versions (all the recipes make 4 servings) if you're single or a couple. I also like that the leftover variations are very different than the original meal or each other, so you don't get bored with what you're having. I disagree about the recipes being too fancy. A few of them are true special-occasion meals, but by and large, the ingredients are easy to find and the recipes are quick to prepare. In fact, my only complaint would have been that some of the recipes could have been spiced up a little: they're yummy but sometimes a little plain.

LOVE THE WAY THESE FOLKS COOK,

These cookbook writers have it together. They feel the same way about cooking, eating, and enjoying life as my spouse and I do. We have been cooking with "planned overs" in mind for years. This book reaffirms what we have been doing for years and adds a new dimension. This last week we patterened our menus after their chicken week and it worked like a charm. This is a book which will stay in the kitchen and become batter spattered. It won't become lost in the closet. If you haven't checked out their other cook books you should.

Perfect for a busy two career household. Great food, easy to prepare and healthy. All recipes I've tried are near gourmet. Also saves money on your grocery bill. Highly recommend.

Easy, Delicious and Nutritious,
By Monica C. Holmback (Cincinnati, OH USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cooking for the Week : Leisurely Weekend Cooking for Easy WeekDAY Meals (Paperback)
This is a great cookbook for busy people who like to eat delicious, healthy, creative meals. The recipes are easy to follow, with short ingredient lists. The preparation is simple but elegant. And the main idea behind this book, that you can "cook big" on the weekend and still not be doomed to eat exactly the same thing as leftovers for the rest of the week, is a lifesaver for me. The pictures are beautiful and the layout is easy to read. My only concern is that the binding will not hold up to years of use in the kitchen. I checked this book out of the library and liked it so much that I am now buying a copy.

The recipes in this book are touted as kid-friendly, but my kids don't eat tuna or salmon or many of the seasonings in these meals. If you eat "fancy" meals most of the time I think you would really like this cookbook, but I'm sending mine back.

Eating Gourmet Style - Without Gourmet Effort!,

This review is from: Cooking for the Week : Leisurely Weekend Cooking for Easy WeekDAY Meals (Paperback)
WOW - we have been so excited by this book. I was desperate for something that would help me plan meals for the week without doing casseroles or having to cook everything at once and stick it in the freezer. This system allows you to eat FRESH meals without recreating the base ingredients every time. Having the meat and vegetables already prepared for the week takes tons of time away from meal prep. Slicing and dicing is the primary time-consuming element. The book makes a statement we've found absolutely true: We can enjoy meals that taste like we've gone to a restaurant, and we've spent far less time and money. I also appreciate the lack of processed-food ingredients in the meals. The butter and fat content is a bit high, but I substitute olive oil nearly 100% of the time for better heart health. We haven't found anything that we don't want to try again! LOVE the colorful photos. They inspire me to create something new. I'm also learning to create my own new recipes that use leftover meats, vegetables and breads into later meals. It's been a great cooking school!

I am a huge fan of this trio, Diane Morgan and Kathleen and Dan Taggart(authors of A Basic Gourmet Entertains, Very Entertaining and Entertaining People. Cooking for the Week is one of the most inspiring cookbooks that I have read in a long time. It is truly brilliant. It makes such perfect sense to make a large meal at the beginning of the week and turn the "leftovers" into interesting fare throughout the week.I have incorporated this book into my life(as should you) and my family is thrilled. They say, no more boring leftovers. This book is a must. It is an enormous contribution to anybody who enjoys cooking for their family.

I bought this book for everyone at my office. It is the best book that I've seen for organized cooking that does not include canned soup, processed cheese etc.If there are more like this out there, please let me know! |
