Editorial Reviews

Review

"He not only survived the surgery, but thrived, losing 335 pounds in just over a year and a half. He's gone from death to life, and now teaches cooking classes for bariatric patients which include recipes for Mock Apple Pie and Almond Chicken from this cookbook. They will help patients and everyone else alike." --People Magazine

"These recipes have been tried and tested, savored & enjoyed by weight loss surgery patients and supporters alike. Post-op dietary guidelines vary and we encourage weight-loss surgery patients to learn the basic principles of nutrition and make wise choices on what they eat. One of the key features of Dick Stucki's book is the nutritional analysis included with each recipe. You'll find the recipes high in protein, low in carbohydrates and in compliance with the needs & restrictions of most bariatric guidelines. Cooking for WLS Patients also features shopping ideas, and cooking tips, as well as serving and storing suggestions. This is a wonderful resource to weight-loss surgery patients throughout the world." --Colleen M. Cook, Bariatric Suupport Centers International

"This cookbook is not just a bunch of recipes. On every page, there are special notes from the chef's notebook, kitchen tips, cheese helps, kitchen tips and other ideas for the using the recipes. I find this to be an incredibly positive approach to share with the many weight loss surgery patients who have had the surgery in years past and others who will have weight loss surgery in the future. This book serves patients extremely well. This book serves many functions, and I urge patients and supporters alike to read this book carefully and put into use throughout your life the principles taught by this author and chef." --Dr. R. Chad Halversen M.D.

1.0 out of 5 stars A disappointment, December 29, 2007

With all due respect to the author, recipes including with pork rinds and heavy cream is not what I expected.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Lap Band Chronicles thinks..., January 30, 2009
I'm not so sure about this one. I read through the recipes and what struck me was the amount of heavy cream, high fat cheeses and, butter were used in the dishes. I also checked out the nutrition information after each dish and I really couldn't find much with a high protein count and/or low calories. Perhaps this book is best suited to bariatric patients who are at least a year out from their surgery and have reached and are able to maintain their weight loss goal. No pictures either, bummer! I give it one lap band. [...]

5.0 out of 5 stars How to Cook After Weight Loss Surgery, October 12, 2008
By R. Scanlon (Albuquerque, NM USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I haven't actually made any of the receipes in this cookbook yet, but I did look through it and they look wonderful. It is written by a man who has lost a LOT of weight since his weight loss surgery, so I believe he knows what he is talking about. I noticed that many of the ingredients seemed like they were not "diet" foods and that is a good thing. It looked like you could make these dishes for the whole family and eat them yourself - perfect!!! I look forward to making some of these meals, snacks, and deserts.
