Book Description

Cooking Well June 30, 2009
Can practicing a healthy lifestyle, which includes a healthy diet, decrease Multiple Sclerosis symptoms?

In the U.S. alone, approximately 400,000 people suffer from Multiple Sclerosis (MS). MS is an autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system. There are a variety of symptoms of MS, and it affects people in different ways, but there is no cure.

Eating well can help strengthen your body, and make living with the disease a little easier. Maintaining a low fat diet with foods containing anti-inflammatory properties can improve your well-being by decreasing your MS-related symptoms and flare-ups.

Cooking Well: Multiple Sclerosis
features over 100 recipes designed to improve daily functioning and aid in the treatment of this disease.

Cooking Well: Multiple Sclerosis also includes:
* An overview on how to live with MS
* A list of foods to avoid
* A meal diary and checklist to track your progress

All recipes and meals in the Cooking Well series have been specially created by renowned health and diet expert, Chef Marie-Annick Courtier. Each book in the series also includes general nutrition information as well as tips on which foods to avoid along the path of nutritional healing.

I heard about this cookbook and pre-ordered it before release. I'm glad I got it.

I am not disciplined enough nor will my finances allow for a special diet for me and a different one for my husband. I was pleased to see this isn't just a book of recipes, but also contains information that encouraged me to eat healthier.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not in line with the MS diet, October 24, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cooking Well: Multiple Sclerosis: Over 75 Easy and Delicious Recipes for Nutritional Healing (Paperback)
I thought this book would contain recipes that would work within the Swank/Mcdougall diet, but it does not. Most of the recipes contain dairy of some sort and legumes. I was very disappointed in the recipes that were offered. It seems that the only recipes in line with the diet were for baked fish or chicken which I already know how to make. I was hopeful for some substitutions that would satisfy the strictness of the diet, but I was sadly mistaken. Seems that the only option left is to run my own "test kitchen" to come up with substitutions myself. I'm a foodie and I have a better than average knowledge of cooking so it may be easier for me than others. Either way, don't waste your money on this cookbook as it is not in line at all with the suggested MS diets.
