5.0 out of 5 stars Kindle Vegan Review July 1, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
OK, I'm fed up with people who don't know the difference between Vegan & Vegetarian complaining about the "Non-Vegetarian" recipes in this book because they contain cheese, or eggs, etc. So here goes my review:

1) The Kindle version is very easy to navigate with the table of contents sending you to a specific chapter and then the chapter contents sending to a specific recipe. This is my 6th Cook Book on my Kindle and it is by far the best laid out! Great Job!

2) The Vegan recipes are noted with a little, easy to see, leaf symbol for those of us that prefer a plant based diet. Again, Great Job!

3) The recipes are straight forward and contain tips to help even the beginner without wasting the time and energy of the more experienced chefs in trying to put them together. In short: great book for both expereinced and non-expereinced cooks! Again, Great Job!

4) The recipes make use of common spices found (or should be found) in vegan/vegetarian pantry. Again, Great Job!

5) To quote from the book "If you love your toaster oven almost as much as you love your microwave, stop....it's not for people who just want to thaw out whatever was on sale in the freezer section at the big-box grocery store." In other words, if you've come to realize that no matter what the ads say big-box stores don't care what you eat as long as you buy from them and they have no real plans to help you stay or get healthy (just take a look at what walks in the doors, or note that they ALL have a pharmacy) then you will find this book very useful.

6) The recipes do use oils and fats, but not all of them, and they are used in reasonable portions (not typical US portions).

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious, easy recipes June 30, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I found the recipes to be simple and yummy. In response to another reviewer,I would like to add that (at least according to Wikipedia) non-animal based rennet is often used in N.American cheese-making:

"There are many sources of enzymes, ranging from plants, fungi, and microbial sources, that can substitute for animal rennet. Cheeses produced from any of these varieties of rennet are suitable for lacto-vegetarians to consume. GMO-Microbial rennet is used more often in industrial cheesemaking in North America today because it is less expensive than animal rennet, whereas cheese from Europe is more likely to be made from animal rennet due to tradition."

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally I know how to cook vegetables on my BBQ June 30, 2011
By Raven
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Finally, a book that focuses on cooking vegetables on the grill.

The introduction provides an excellent overview of how to use different kinds of grills from charcoal to indoor electric. As pretty much a beginner to grilling, there is enough information here to get me started and maybe even experiment beyond the scope of the recipes included in this book.

Some of the recipes in this book are pretty standard fair, but there are some rather unusual ideas: I never imagined you could cook nan bread (from scratch) or popcorn on the grill. Mushrooms and avocados seem to dominate the recipes in this book; which is great if you like that sort of thing. There is a special leaf mark to indicate vegan friendly recipes. These recipes are not as easy to modify for allergies as some cookbooks.

The formatting for the Kindle is okay. There are several different interactive table of contents (one at the beginning for each chapter, and one at the start of each chapter for the different recipes). I'm not certain if this layout makes things easier or more difficult to use as a cookbook.

I've been long seeking ways to cook something more than fish and tinfoil potatoes on grill. I can't wait to try the recipes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Idea For A Cookbook July 2, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
What a great idea for a cookbook! And, by the way, I've been a vegetarian all my life (my mom is a vegetarian so I was raised that way) and I always eat parmesan made with vegetable or artificial rennet. The previous reviewer who said that parmesan cheese should not be in a vegetarian cookbook is incorrect, as long as one shops carefully.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Recipes Needing Pictures December 19, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book has some delicious recipes that are not too difficult to make and some that are complicated. We enjoy the variety. However, the cover makes you think there will be pictures with the recipes. There are not. The book has very few pictures. I like having a picture so I know what I am aiming for. If this does not bother you this book is wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a treat July 10, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I need another cookbook like I need more stress... :)
All the same, this book was being offered from free (Kindle edition) so why not?
What an awesome little book it is!
The recipes are simple and flavorful, and everything we made has been great.
The only downside, which is not the authors fault, is the way the Kindle layout of this book makes it hard to follow sometime.

I purchased this book as a gift for a friend. Recipes are good and varied; however, it really needs more pictures.

4.0 out of 5 stars Maybe Not Vegan, But It Fits Us Well Enough July 5, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
First some facts:
Cooking is one of my favorite hobbies and I'm always on the lookout for the new and different (yet tasty) recipe.
Neither my wife nor I are vegan or vegetarian, but we certainly try to limit red meat and eat your basic metric crap load of vegetables.

What I usually do is to find recipes on the net for something interesting to eat, maybe Google for more iterations of the recipes, and cherry pick ingredients, herbs and spices to suit our tastes. Hey, it has worked so far and my wife loves my cooking.

This book has given me a ton of ideas, many of which are new to me, some that are different versions of older ideas. So, I'm very satisfied with it.

Only gave it 4 stars though. Needs more tofu. LOL
