Not bad, but not "Pro",

This review is from: Cook's Select-Pro 17-Piece Nonstick Cookware Set (Kitchen)
I recently purchased this set to replace a very beat up secondary cookware set I bought about 6 years ago at Wal-Mart for roughtly the same price as this set. I did not buy this set to use myself, rather it was purchased for the teens & kids in the house to use so they don't mess with my Calphalon & Circulon Premiere sets(may God help them if they screw up MY pots & pans). Here's the low down on this Cook's Select "Pro" set: They are pretty well made (once I would have said "especially so considering the China manufacture," but the quality of goods from China is so much improved nowadays and I no longer consider that a negative). Construction is solid, the rivets are nice and should hold up for a long time, a lot longer than the screwed on stuff that is more typical of this price class. The nonstick coating appears to be of good quality and is applied well, although only time will tell how long it will last, especially in the hands of our kids. The overall finish is good, and although I must say I am not a big fan of the bare aluminum bottoms on these pots they are attractive and well executed. The glass lids (with pressure vents) fit well and look nice. The handles strike me as a bit bizarre; chromed cylinders pressed flat on the ends. Not my style really, but it appars to be a cheap but effective way of finishing the handles. Emphasize "cheap." The 3mm solid aliminum construction makes this set fairly easy too cook with, giving a nice, even heat distribution. They have the same limitations of every other nonstick, (i.e. you can't brown/deglaze effectively, you can't use metal utensils, etc.) but no more or less than any other nonstick. Clean up is a snap. Bottom line: This set is probably the best you'll find at the price (under $50 on sale). Long term durability is a question mark, but every other set I've seen in this price bracket is practically guaranteed to fall apart in 18 months of everyday use. I'd say this set has a fair chance of surviving my kids. I'll let you know. If you are as serious cook, suck it up and invest in a real "professional" cookware set, you won't regret it in the long run.

I bought this set 1 year ago and am still really happy. I needed some new pans since the set I was using we received as a wedding present several years ago and they were worn out. I didn't have $400 for the set I wanted and purchased these in a Friday sale for $49.99. It was great! I really like the design and how well they have held up. If I see them on sale again I will be getting a set for my new sister in law so she stops trying to steal mine!

Great deal for the money and with free shipping to boot. Amazon... just cant say enough good things about them and their deals. My wife loves the new cookware. We bought a set a few years ago for more money and got less pieces. The non-stick material has already started to peal off that old set. I decided to try this one for the price of $49.95 and was very pleasently surprised at the great quality of the set. We use some part of it everyday and its just superb, easy cleanup as well. Super deal!!!

An incredible value. I originally wanted anodized, but couldn't resist this set at the price. I have now discovered that I was not compatible with anodized as I only use a dishwasher for everything.

I know a lot of the other reviews are pretty positive on these, but either reference price or are relatively new reviews. I have a similar set from Cook's and I have to say the finish is not very good. My most used pan already has a finish that is failing (after about 9 months) and the other pans that I use I can see are starting to be worn. Honestly, I had a cheaper T-Fal set after my wedding and they held up better, longer. If these were more expensive, I would have given it a lower rating, but the price of these are low enough that I should not expect premium quality. Just know what you are getting - these are decent pans, but will not last for you.

I bought this cookware set and was very impressed by it's quality. I bought a similar set from JC Penney's about 4 years ago for $99 plus tax and this set is as good or even better. With free shipping this is an amazing value. I really liked the size of the pots and they are heavy and very quality made. I highly recommend this set to everyone!
