Product Description

Cooks Standard Multi-Ply Clad Stainless-Steel 13-Inch Wok with Dome Lid

alt

Beautifully designed, the three-layer metal cookware features an interior and exterior layer of premium-grade 18/10 stainless steel with a multi-element alloy aluminum core (along the bottom and up the sides) for fast, even heating and thorough heat distribution. Even more, the brushed stainless-steel exterior resists scratches for long-lasting good looks, whether on the stovetop or hanging from a pot rack. The cookware's solid stainless-steel side handle and opposite helper handle come riveted for strength and feature air-flow technology to help them stay cooler to the touch than typical handles. In addition, its secure-fitting stainless-steel dome lid (complete with its own loop handle) traps in heat and moisture for efficient cooking and delicious results. The cookware can be used on all stovetop surfaces, including induction, and it withstands an oven's heat up to 500 degrees F. The wok cleans up easily by hand or in the dishwasher and carries a limited lifetime warranty.

What is Multi-Ply Clad Metal Construction?

Multi-Ply Clad metal construction is a combination of 18/10 stainless steel with a multi-element aluminum core that creates a permanent bond of metal, so heat passes through the whole pan body from the bottom up the side walls, not just at the bottom, for maximum cooking performance.

Durable Stainless Steel with Even-Heating Aluminum Core

As part of Cooks Standard's Multi-Ply Clad Stainless Steel cookware, the collection features three layers of clad metal for high-quality performance and excellent cooking results. The interior surface of the cookware provides a smooth, hard layer of premium-grade 18/10 stainless steel, while the stainless-steel exterior offers an elegant mirror-polished finish for enhanced visual appeal.

Best of all, an inner core of multi-element alloy aluminum comes sandwiched between the interior and exterior layer of stainless steel for faster heating and excellent heat distribution. The aluminum core extends from the bottom all the way up the side walls for total coverage. It's the best of both--durable stainless steel for strength combined with the fast, thorough heating of aluminum.

Stay-Cool Handles with Air-Flow Technology

Thoughtfully designed, the cookware's solid stainless-steel handles come riveted for strength and provide an open V-shaped design with air-flow technology that keeps the handle cooler and more comfortable to hold when cooking on the stovetop. The long handles on the pans and the generous loop side handles on the pots make the vessels easy to move around on the stovetop or to safely lift and carry, even when full. Though the handles stay cooler to the touch, pot holders or oven mitts are still recommended.

Other Highlights

The cookware's matching stainless-steel lids fit securely, helping to trap in heat, moisture, and nutrients, plus they come with loop handles for safe, simple placement or removal. Another thoughtful detail includes the cookware's scratch-resistant stainless-steel bases, which come with a brushed finish and that can be safely used on any type of stovetop, including gas, electric, ceramic glass, even induction. Oven-safe up to 500 degrees F, the cookware offers outstanding versatility, transitioning effortlessly from cooking on the stovetop to browning or finishing in the oven (not broiler safe).

Easy clean up as well.

Large enough for big stir fry dinners, but you can also use it in place of a smaller sauté pan.

The wok is heavy steel, and it works on both induction and standard cook tops and stoves.

Overall this is a decent product for use on a gas or electric stove. It seems to be well constructed, though lacking in mass at the base and heat distribution is average at best. However, for induction cooking, which this is advertised to do and the reason I bought it, this "WOK" is lacking. Though it will work on an induction burner, the wok will never get very hot. I performed a test with a thermal gun on the wok when using my gas stove and my 1800W induction burner as my heat sources. The wok performed poorly when using the induction burner and the gas stove test didn't fare much better.

The whole point of getting a wok is to have a cooking vessel that will transfer the maximum amount of heat into your food. I have a standard carbon steal wok that gets rocket hot in a minute when using my induction burner, so I know the burner is capable of putting out the heat. I also tested out a cast iron pan and it too will get over 700 degrees, though it takes a bit longer to get there. With induction cooking; "metal and mass matters".

The final conclusion is that this is a decent "PAN" for the price. If you are getting this to use on an induction burner, "don't". If you are getting this to use as a "WOK", buy a carbon steel or cast iron wok instead; you'll get better results no matter what source you use to heat up your Mung beans.

I bought it mainly because I could not get passed the good price. This is a great wok. Very easy to work with. I thought it would be a bit big for my stove, but it is not. And it has so much room. A few times that the meat had too much liquid in it when I used my 4-qt pan, this wok came to rescue. My stove top is also much cleaner since food does not easily get splashed out of the the pan. Easy clean up as well.

First of all, I was very impressed that such a large pan arrived so well packed and in pristine condition! Here are some other reasons why I am so happy with this purchase:

1. All of my cookware is Tramontina 18/10 Stainless Steel Tri-Ply Clad, and I love them, but they do not make a stainless steel clad wok. The Cooks Standard Multi-Ply Clad Stainless-Steel 13-inch Wok looks very similar to the Tramontina line. So displaying it in my kitchen with the rest of my cookware will work out great. I just need to find a space for it, as it is quiet large with the lid. So excited!

2. Due to a wok's outside diameter, I cannot fit one on my smaller burners on the back of my Kenmore glass top stove, as it will hit the back where the controls are. The only way I can use a wok/wok-like pan on my stove, is to get one that has a base diameter that will fit one of my front burners. The smallest burner on the front of my stove is 8 1/2" (my stove manual says I cannot use a pan that is more than one inch larger or smaller than that). Every wok I've found has too small of a base diameter to fit on my front burner (5 1/2-6 1/2" - Calphalon, All-Clad, etc.). The Cooks Standard Multi-Ply Clad Stainless-Steel 13-inch Wok was the ONLY stainless steel clad wok that would work, as the part that actually touches the stove is exactly 7 1/2", then it gradually curves out from there.

3. I am also very impressed with the depth of this wok! It can hold a lot of food! The height of the pan, measuring vertically down from the top side of the rim to the stove surface, is 3 and 7/8 inches.

4. The pan is very well balanced, has a nicely shaped handle, and a wonderful helper handle!

This wok fits perfectly on my electric stove top. I preheat it at medium heat, add some Asian peanut, ginger, or chili oil, and throw in the sliced meat. It sears beautifully and I can stir it without sticking! Same thing for fresh veggies, gooey hoisin sauce or any other stir fry sauce. I cook my ingredients in small batches to get that authentic stir fried flavor and then bring everything together at the end. It tastes better (and is healthier!) than the local Chinese food joint. Clean up is really easy with a soapy sponge and hot water. I also use Bar Keepers Friend® to keep it polished and shiny new.

I've read previous reviews and comments that say this isn't a "true" wok, and that carbon steel or cast iron is best. I say - bologna! I've tried those woks and my family, my neighbors, the fire dept. and my landlord were quite upset when I "seasoned" them by burning on vegetable oil and filling my kitchen with greasy smoke (setting off the smoke alarm!) Medical research shows that burned oil is toxic and carcinogenic. I've learned my lesson: I'll use high quality try ply stainless cookware instead!

I'm very, very happy with this pan and I highly recommend it!

UPDATE: I've been using this Wok for 5 months and it's still going strong! I have no complaints. I also purchased a useful accessory for it: Cooks Standard NC-00247 Steamer Insert for Chef's Pan, 13-Inch/32cm This is the best steamer I've ever used and it fits perfectly on this Wok.

My wife is Chinese and tends to cook at high heat which has result in a couple of my good quality pans being covered in carbon. We've had this wok for about a year and although it has taken the same punishment many times, it remains spotless. Frequently she will leave it black and I have assumed that the wok is ruined but after a 10 minute soak in hot soapy water, the deposits wipe away and it looks like new again. Highly recommended.
