Product Description

Amazon.com Preview

The Cool Boarders series has carved a track through several renditions on the PlayStation. By the time Cool Boarders 4 hit the slopes, the series was way out of bounds and buried in an avalanche of criticism. But now that UEP Systems--the developer of the well-received original version–-is in control once again, PlayStation2 fans might think twice before instinctively picking up SSX to get their boarding fix.

Cool Boarders 2001 introduces previously unseen snowboarding features to the PS2 system. Seven play modes are available: Extreme, Trick, S.B.C., Extreme vs., Trick vs., Trick Master, and License. In Extreme mode, riders race and trick their way through a long course filled with shortcuts. Success comes from blending speed and stunts. Trick mode lifts players to a boarder's paradise chock-full of rails, jumps, and other strategically placed objects. S.B.C., or Snow Boarding Combined, is a two-stage challenge in which riders complete a trick session and speed session to advance. This mode is enhanced in the License challenge--players progress through a series of S.B.C. stages, achieving a license to compete after beating fellow riders to the base of the slope.

Can Cool Boarders 2001 overtake SSX? That remains to be seen. But with unique gameplay features, both releases may reach a photo finish in their own unique style--and with equal appeal. --Eric Twelker

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Game, Depends on the Gamer, July 1, 2001

Some people will love this game; some people will hate. I really like it. I received this game as gift. I had read some bad reviews and wasn't expecting very much from this game. I had played SSX in the past, so the controlls were familiar. First I just played some quick games with my friends. It was pretty fun. But when I started to do the competitions, I begin to love this game.

The trick system is almost the same as SSX. Doing tricks isn't too hard. Grinding is very easy, unlike SSX (which I liked). I am pretty sure that there are more tricks in this game than SSX. There is a good selection of snowboarders to choose from (pros and amateurs). Controlls are a little bit tighter then SSX (on the analog).

The part where SSX comes ahead is its graphics. In Cool Boarders 2001 the edges of the surrounding is too jagged. There are some glitches (you can get stuck in the snow). The character design is very good, though. Overall, SSX has better graphics.

If you are a young child (around 6-8) SSX is a better game for you. In this game, some people might get frustrated. Otherwise, this is a better snowboarding game with more options. Not some easy arcade snowboarding game. At least give this game a try and rent it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This game is a big compatition., November 9, 2001
This review is from: Cool Boarders 2001 (Video Game)
I have played Cool boarders 2001 for such a long time. I shall never sell this game. I think this should be rated five stars because it is very challenging and fun. It is also very interesting in how you not only control the riders, but how careful you are when you are going atleast 100 MPH. This game should never be forgoten by anyone in this whole world.

4.0 out of 5 stars Like The Improvements, June 17, 2001

I was a huge fan of the Coolboarders series on the original Playstation so i was glad when this agme was released. Apart from the amazing new graphics this game has loads more new options. There are 7 different modes which will keep you playing and playing until the early hours of the morning. As with most of the great sports games you have to obtain a licence, well thsi now applies in this game. The amount of work you have to put into this game makes it worth the money as you will still be playing this games months after you have purchased it
