cool boarders 2k1,
This review is from: Cool Boarders 2001 (Video Game)
This is a pretty cool game, has much of the feel from cool boarders 2, that people seemed to like more than in 4, also now the game plays like tony hawk, where you beat levels to unlock more player and events, fun to play but i think you must be a fan of the series or really like snowboarding because tony hawk pro skater 2 sets the trend as far as extreme sports goes!

Coolboarders 2001 is the best snowboard game on the market. The new characters look more realistic than in previous coolboarders. The game has many really well done details such as snow being on the board and falling snow. I played for hours the first time. It's challenging but a great way of entertainment. My mom even played with me. The two player mode is fantastic. It's an awesome game since I busted my knee and can't go snowboarding it makes me feel as if I'm really in the game.

Although this game, like the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series lets you perform tricks, skate your brains out and acquire/learn new moves in snowboarding, the game is a new level of addictiveness. When I first got it, I played a Quick Race and selected Tagart. I was able to figure out the easy controls within minutes into the Gate level. Although I lost, I couldn't put the control down. I decided to make my own character in Career Mode. I selected what looks like an Asian Punk-Rock star with a mohawk and DC shoes (With matching gloves, of course).Everything in the game is authentic, as you would expect the true-motion-capturing-for-game developers at 989 Studios/Sports to put in. The brands of clothes, gloves, shoes and other apparel are all real, authentic snowboarding clothing lines. Anyway, my character looked funky but even though he was weak, I was able to learn more about the game. The top buttons enable you to rotate in circles (Yes, 180, 360, 540, 1080, etc., etc.,). The circle button lets you flip and pressing up makes you do a normal flip while down makes you do a backflip. Easy controls, eh? It's also easy to grind. All you do is hold on to triangle and you can grind on! Hold X to charge your jumping energy or in mid air, to grab your board and do more tricks. While grinding (which is really fun to me), you can pump off and do flips, turns and more. It all looks really, really, nice. While the game does have its fair share and bugs and since I'm a newcomer to the series, I wouldn't know what the previous ones were although I heard there were quite a bit. The bugs in this game aren't that buggy but I do tend to get frustrated at it because I have trouble pulling off a 1440 degree, triple back flip, mute grab to Japan Air sommersault off the cliff in the second board park. No one's perfect?! Overall, this game is FUN. It's a great 2 player game although it gets buggy sometimes like always trippin on rocks, making it a hassle to try to get out of. If you like to board, I think this game is for you, even if you don't, rent this and get at it for a week, you'll like it but its value is definitely off, .... If the bugs were fixed and the levels and fighting would be more intense, mixed with better graphics, this game would be any gamers dream but for now, it only deserves 3 stars.

This game is confusing and lacks a lot of the course options of the previous versions. The play control seems very weak. I'm confused by the courses.

Recently I purchased my first Sony system, the PS1. I had 150 dollars, so I bought a game also. Cool Barders 2001 caught my eye, so I bought it. Before hand I played the hell out of number 3 and 4. The game really isn't that much of an improvment over #4. What I ended up doing is trading it for #3, and buying number 4. They are much better games. 2001 is also pretty easy, stops you automaticcly. Also, you can only do 2 flips with out slowing down.

The only thing "cool" about this game, is the ice-cold anger you will feel for wasting your time and money for buying it. It the face of amazing examples of how to press the playstaton's limits with games such as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, CB2001's trick set is so short that it will make you want to take naps in between jumps. As long as we are speaking of tricks, there is one called the sad air. I think that sums up most of the game prety well. It's just plain sad. The tracks ... as well. The only plus to this game is the Create-a-Boarder. All the details are alterable so that you can customize yourself to your most intricat wishes. I feel sorry for this game because I am a major fan of the series. I own the second and third instalations of the series and it hurts me to see them at such a low. Do yourself a favor, buy a new PlayStation2 and SSX so that you can experience what should really be in a snowboarding game.
