4.0 out of 5 stars Great Team Up Album!
I am a big fan of Bob James. I have other of his collaboration albums and group albums such as FOURPLAY and find this album to be one of his best collaborative efforts. This album is great as background music at a social function or just to listen to while relaxing.

1.0 out of 5 stars NEW CURE FOR INSOMNIA FOUND IN THIS ALBUM!
The lead reviewer of this "sleeper" CD mentions "whatever happened to concise musical statements," referring to the painfully long-winded gasp of this dreamy collaboration -- hence I'll be concise here: They should prescribe this album for insomniacs who don't respond to heavy drugs! What a snorer, even for "mellowites" such as James and...

I am a big fan of Bob James. I have other of his collaboration albums and group albums such as FOURPLAY and find this album to be one of his best collaborative efforts. This album is great as background music at a social function or just to listen to while relaxing.

The album starts out great with "Movin' On" and keeps the pace up throughout the entire album. The transitions from selection to selection are smooth and have no jarring shifts from mellow selections to upbeat selections. Even songs like "New York Samba" with it's slightly busy and upbeat tempo blends in with the other selections.

If you like modern jazz I doubt you can go wrong with this instrumental jazz purchase.

Having enjoyed listening to this CD in the past, my husband brought it to the hospital when we were expecting our first child. The relaxing, happy music was just what we all needed! It continues to be a favorite when we all need to relax. I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool is an understatement, December 7, 1998

Wow! Was there ever a more appropriate title for an album?! This is one of my favourites. After a long day, this is the perfect music to go with my scented candles. When I have trouble sleeping, or I want to set a romantic mood - this is my CD! I can't wait to drive through the Jamican countryside (preferably a rainy day in Portland) and groove to this c-o-o-l album. . . and what a creative album jacket design!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cooler than me and you, August 27, 2006
This review is from: Cool (Audio CD)
Let's go way back in time, mid-eighties, pre-Internet, when I was hanging out on the local electronic BBSes. I met a jazz musician, Earl Rutledge, who loaned me his entire collection and turned me onto fusion jazz. Bob James, keyboard man, was awesome. You may know him because he wrote Angie, which is the theme song to the TV show Taxi. Earl Klugh, on bass, was a pretty good solo artist as well, but I don't know him so well. After nine albums and a live package of greatest hits, Bob James retired. Later on, he returned. However, he came back lazy. Then I left Florida in favor of North Carolina and lost touch with the jazz scene.

2006. I was in a DVD store in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. I saw a large and wondrous collections of DVDs, but I already owned every damn thing they had. On my way out the door, however, I saw COOL.

And so it is. This is Bob James at his finest, and Earl Klugh at his finest, and everybody else just doing what they do. If I lived in a Western country right now, and if money was no object, I'd probably read a bunch of reviews about the music of Bob James over the past 10 or so years and believe them. He's one of the greats.

The first time I played this CD, in case you're wondering, Picasso crawled out from beneath the miao fabric which covers the big beanbag to listen. When the CD ended, she told me to play it again. I did. And I'm playing it again, right now. Yeah. She's listening, too, and it's cool if I get stupid and play keyboard on her head. We're a coupla hep jazz cats.

In other words, Bob is back. I am happy. Life is good.

I can't believe that I bought this cd almost 13 years ago. It's still great and I've just introduced it to someone this year and they plan to buy it.

That is a good album to listen when you are doing some tedious jobs. However when you are free and boring, if you listen to this CD, you will be even bored. There are not much 'content' in the songs. They just 'play' the notes instead of playing music.
