Coolio's Best Yet,
By "dianasiekman" (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cool Magnifico (Audio CD)
Had "El Cool Magnifico" gotten much of any attention, it probably would have sold like Coolio's other albums. Not a lot has changed; his voice sounds a little bit different, but he's still the same Coolio that we know from several years ago. He still focuses his music on having a good time vs talking gangsta all the time. "Shake It Up" and "Ghetto Square Dance" are easily my two favorites, with both having catchy funk beats that resemble "Ooh La La" and even "Fantastic Voyage" in a way. Many other songs are good too; there really isn't a bad song on the album. In a couple songs it sounds slightly awkward because Coolio comes on newer and harder than we're used to ("Like This" and "Pop Yo Collar") but I wouldn't say they're overly bad for the first time that Coolio has experimented with that sound. Bottom line: A great album from "What is an MC" to "Pop Yo Collar." In my opinion it's Coolio's best yet. If you like the funk beats and lyrics about good times in his older albums, I'd say that "El Cool Magnifico" is well worth the money.

Possibly his best yet (4.25 stars),
By Espy "Espy" (melbourne, australia) - See all my reviews

Coolio in my opinion has basically been gettin better and better as his carrer has gone but his amount of fame and radion play has been a bit up and down. This album has coolios showing a bit more maturity in some songs like "what is an mc" but he also has some fun and catchy songs like "I like girls"(possibly my favourite track", this album also has a few well credited artists such as B-real of cypress hill, daz dillinger of the dogg pound and krayzie bone of bone thugs n harmony. I highly reccomend this album to any fan of coolio's.

His return without corporate record company.,

Too bad Tommy Boy dropped everyone, but anyways this is a great Coolio album. I am always impressed at how he does not stray from his integrity and change himself to suit the corporate music industry. His words are genuine and he still has some of the funkiest beats in hip-hop.
Over the years his lyrics have teached more than just reached, where his debut saw him stuck in the ghetto this album is the result of getting out of the ghetto and he wants all those suffering in the ghetto to get out. "What Is An MC?" and "Pop Yo Collar" are my personal favorites though when I listen to the album, I listen to every song. To me, he is still one of the realest MC's out there.
