5.0 out of 5 stars Coolio's Best Yet
Had "El Cool Magnifico" gotten much of any attention, it probably would have sold like Coolio's other albums. Not a lot has changed; his voice sounds a little bit different, but he's still the same Coolio that we know from several years ago. He still focuses his music on having a good time vs talking gangsta all the time. "Shake It Up" and "Ghetto...

"Shake It Up" and "Ghetto Square Dance" are easily my two favorites, with both having catchy funk beats that resemble "Ooh La La" and even "Fantastic Voyage" in a way. Many other songs are good too; there really isn't a bad song on the album. In a couple songs it sounds slightly awkward because Coolio comes on newer and harder than we're used to ("Like This" and "Pop Yo Collar") but I wouldn't say they're overly bad for the first time that Coolio has experimented with that sound. Bottom line: A great album from "What is an MC" to "Pop Yo Collar." In my opinion it's Coolio's best yet. If you like the funk beats and lyrics about good times in his older albums, I'd say that "El Cool Magnifico" is well worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Possibly his best yet (4.25 stars), September 18, 2005

Coolio in my opinion has basically been gettin better and better as his carrer has gone but his amount of fame and radion play has been a bit up and down. This album has coolios showing a bit more maturity in some songs like "what is an mc" but he also has some fun and catchy songs like "I like girls"(possibly my favourite track", this album also has a few well credited artists such as B-real of cypress hill, daz dillinger of the dogg pound and krayzie bone of bone thugs n harmony. I highly reccomend this album to any fan of coolio's.

5.0 out of 5 stars His return without corporate record company., January 9, 2005

Too bad Tommy Boy dropped everyone, but anyways this is a great Coolio album. I am always impressed at how he does not stray from his integrity and change himself to suit the corporate music industry. His words are genuine and he still has some of the funkiest beats in hip-hop.

Over the years his lyrics have teached more than just reached, where his debut saw him stuck in the ghetto this album is the result of getting out of the ghetto and he wants all those suffering in the ghetto to get out.

"What Is An MC?" and "Pop Yo Collar" are my personal favorites though when I listen to the album, I listen to every song.

To me, he is still one of the realest MC's out there.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Solid and under-rated album, January 5, 2004
By
This review is from: El Cool Magnifico (Audio CD)
Coolio is back with his first album since 1997's "My Soul" and he returns with a very solid, but underrated album. Since "Gangsta's Paradise" came out in 1995, Coolio hasn't gotten the props he deserves. I'll go through the tracks.

1.Shake It Up - Bouncy party type track. Not bad, pretty catchy (3.25/5)

2.Gangbangers (Ft Daz and Spade) - I like this beat. It's mellowed out and cool, but you have to be in a type of mood for it (3.25/5)

3.What Is A MC - Coolio brings heat on this one. A funky beat with some elements of rock and catchy lyrics make this one of the best on the album (4.5/5)

4.Show Me Love - Very nice track with a great message. A laid back Coolio pledges to fellow homeboys to chill out and don't trip. Don't hate (4/5)

5.Ghetto Square Dance - You could almost call this one a classic. Great uptempo party rap song reminescent of "Ooh La La" (4.75/5)

6.I Like Girls - Props to DJ Tommek for making such an original beat and it has me stunned. I have mixed opinions on the beat, which is weird but at the end of the day it's cool. (4/5)

7.Still Be Mine - Actually don't mind the beat, but it's to simple and get's very boring. (3/5)

8.Sunshine - Not a fan of this one (2/5)

9.Island Hop - I find this to be an entertaining fresh beat and it does remind me of tropical islands and exotic women (4.25/5)

10.The Gambler (ft Kenny Rogers) - Something very different and wasn't a fan when i first heard it on the album. But it grew on me. many criticise, but i give coolio his props, it's cool (4.5/5)

11. The Partay - Not bad, that's about all i can say (3.5/5)

12. Somebody Gotta Die (ft Krayzie Bone) - Not my type of beat but looking with an open mind it's not a bad beat (3.25/5)

13. Hear Me Now - Now this is some killer G-Funk. I love the beat and coolio flows pretty well on this one too. Kinda sounds like a "Fredwreck" (producer) type beat. (4.5/5)

14. Knockout Kings - Not a fan (3/5)

15. Skirrt (ft B-Real) - Love this one too, top beat and some great rapping. One to bump in ya trunk. 4.25/5.

The 2 bonus tracks you can skip, don't know why they were added!

I can listen to this album over and over. The songs not on the USA version are great..."The Hustler", "The Partay", "Somebody's Gotta Die", "Swank Ride", and the Dexter song are all classic Coolio. I recommend this album along with the USA version however, because this does not make up for removing "Cadillac Vogues", "Like This", and "Pop Yo Collar".

5.0 out of 5 stars The Return Of Coolio, October 19, 2002
This review is from: Cool Magnifico (Audio CD)
I myself never thought it would happen but it did and i'm happy
for it. Coolio launches his new CD "El Cool Magnifico" in fall of 2002, And while fans (Like Me!) Anxiously waited for the return of the Multi-Platinum selling Rapper he was already working on his 4th CD (Not Including The Greatest Hits and all).
In this album Coolio tries to keep it more Fun & Games instead of just totally Gansta (Like His Past CD's) he tries to show the
soft side. And unlike other artists like Dr. Dre, Ja Rule, DMX,
Master P, Trick Daddy and Much Much more Coolio tries to not use his Bad Language in this (Although there is a bunch of Sexual Content but not enough for parents to Freak Out) I mean sure Coolio will say the odd F word or S word but not as much as
in the 90's. Over "El Cool Magnifico" is a great Cd and a good buy and if you liked It Takes A Thief (1994), Ganstas Paradise (1995) and My Soul (1997) You'll love "El Cool Magnifico.
