Go past his pop hits...."Cool Night" "'65 Love Affair" "Do Right"
"Ride "em Cowboy", "Superstar" etc.... You will find a great, no, ...wonderful....no, words can not describe this man's production work, skills, writing, arrangements. Give a real close listen to " '65 Love Affair", hear all of HIS overlay tracking, his genius skills of production of so many voices and instruments! Listen to "Love Or Let Me Be Lonely", Man what a musical high! His "third eye" is so skilled in music presentation
Phil Spector would smile and dig it! In my opinion, Paul Davis is one of the all time best in pop music history! GOD BLESS him!
Thank you Paul for the years of enjoyment!

I am writing this review in memory of Paul Davis, who passed away of a heart attack on April 22, 2008. I had this album for a great many years, and always enjoyed it. My favorite song of his was "'65 Love Affair" with "Cool Night" as my 2d favorite, and my 3d favorite "Somebody's Been Getting To You." He had a very wonderful voice and talent, and he will be greatly missed by his fans.

Much as was true with the disco era the fact that the "soft rock" genre not only ended up often being an easy dumping ground for artists very difficult to classify (such as Gino Vannelli and Hall & Oates) but also too easily obscured many talented people, those two individuals included. Paul Davis was another such case. A fairly obscure 70's southern pop/rock styled artist with a lot of potential as an all around talent this, what turned out to be his final album really cements his talents as an expressive vocalist, clever producer, masterful keyboardist possesed of a sense of melody and romantic, swoony soulfullness not too out of sync with the likes of (yes) Hall And Oates and Todd Rundgren. One thing he always focuses on however is an extremely keen pop sensability and,due to the lack of success of many of his previous albums that's what he does here. The main reason this is usually catagorized as soft rock is that there are little to no loud guitars or wailing vocals here to qualify it as even conventional pop/rock. It's more an 80's adaptation of singer-songwriter pop with Brill building influences. What really makes this album so special is how Davis really reinvented himself as a completely contemporary artist for this period with excellent use of multi layered, harmonically involved electric keyboards and a band of multiple guitar players, bassists, drummers and backup singers to create music that is very much involved in the arrangement. Anyone whose listened to pop radio within the last 30 years will all to easily recognize the title tune of this album. It's a well done tune for sure but the big surprise is that it's not the best song on this album.Read more ›

One of the greatest voices to come out of pop music from any genre. His smoothness comes across as effortlessly as water poured from a glass. Cool Night is one of the songs that made me become a musician and singer. A must for anyone who loves music of love, family, faith and growing up!

It's just unbelievable that Paul Davis is not far better known. Cool Night is one of the best pop albums from the early eights. Paul's music is rich and his talent shines through in every song. For eights pop fans that know of him, this is a must have, and for those who don't, get this album any way you can, you have no idea what your missing.

This is one of the coolest out there. It still brings back a flood of memories from that era. I bought the cassette when it first came out and I loved it then and I still love it now. His voice is awesome. It is just one of a kind you could listen to it over and over and never get tired of it. If you have never heard it you should get it and listen I'm sure you'll love it as I have. Can't go wrong with this one.

Paul Davis's voice is very melodic, sweet and gentle. To me he's number 1. Of all the songs he wrote in his Cd Sweet Life, my favorite all time song is, Cool Night, the second one is I Go Crazy and of course, You Got to Do Right. I bought 2 Sweet Life CDs in case something happen to one. Plus I recorded it, in my computer. I recomend this Cd to Everybody!

As a song writer is very very good. You can see his beautiful heart, through the lyrics he writes. He's blessed of God.

It's a true shame I have never seeing him on tv singing, or sharing in a Talk Show. I guess the Lord is leading him through another path, which's even better. No doubt he's a very private man, according to what I read about him.

To me there is no other Singer! Please Paul, show up again on TV so that We can see you!!
