Editorial Reviews

Mono Version A Blue Note catalog mainstay from its debut in 1958, this was another early 12 inch originally released as mono only. Now transferred from the first-generation two-track stereo masters, the quintet sound is wide-open and spacious. The phrase all star does not begin to describe this recording collective. Complementing Clark's piano are Art Farmer on trumpet, Jackie McLean handling alto, and a rhythm section consisting of Paul Chambers on bass and Philly Joe Jones behind the drums. TRACKS: 1. Cool Struttin' 2. Sippin' At Bells 3. Blue Minor 4. Deep Night

5.0 out of 5 stars It's so authentic, May 12, 2006
This review is from: Cool Struttin (Audio CD)
Who can say something additional about this wonder? You can taste every track with delight. You can relax with it at home; you can play it while driving, you will have a great companionship with this music; it will never let you down. It's so authentic, so frank, so good; no strange effects, sophistications or commercial tricks. No need of it. It is sold by itself perfectly, with its quality and artistry. Now there are a lot of records loaded with artificiality to trap a big mass of consumers; thanks god, the pureness of this music doesn't need any of these things; it's like Beethoven, it's 5th symphony is sold by itself. A masterpiece, never miss it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sassy , yet very classy...., December 15, 2001
This review is from: Cool Struttin (Audio CD)
I'll admit, the album cover brought this CD to my attention. It reminded me of the classy late 50's and early 60's (of which I never had the opportunity to experience). When I actually listened to this disk I felt as though I had been transported to an early 60's night club where anybody who's anybody goes to be seen. The soft swing of Clark's piano, the cool fingered stylings of Paul Chamber's bass - what a combo! Judge this book by the cover baby! Dim the lights, grab a drink, grab your girl, and enjoy.

How did it take me so long? A Blue Note classic! Like millions of other Blue Note records, only more so. All the reviewers are right to keep their reviews so short. What is there really to say? Everybody's blowing, the groove is cool and funky. Blue Minor is a minor masterpiece...you need it!
