5.0 out of 5 stars Hear that?.......
I don't. Whisper quiet and has a nice glow to it. The lights are placed on the side that would face inward if the fan was venting out. This doesn't really effect the light much but it will be slightly brighter if its placed as such. I have it on the bottom of my HAF 922 to pull air up into the case and its noticeable in airflow and light, just not sound...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not sure how these are quiet
Mine are running at 1800 rpm and are very noisy. My GPU's are running 3 degrees cooler but I'm not sure if it's worth it for the noise. I'm trying to slow them down but my EVGA X58 mobo doesn't seem to be able to control it below 100% output. So at 50% output I might only get a degree or two of cooling on the GPU's. I have yet to try to tap these into the chassis...

Would recommend, ordered a second and will put them on my CoolerMaster hyper 212 cpu cooler, then put its 120mm fan on the bottom as I want the led fans centermost in the case to spread that lovely red glow around!

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Quiet, December 5, 2010

After reading some reviews which said this fan was quiet and the rest which said it was noisy i got confused, but i had already ordered it, so i connected it today and surprisingly it wasn't as noisy as i was expecting it to be, @ 2000rpm, and it moves quite a lot of air too.

I'm trying to slow them down but my EVGA X58 mobo doesn't seem to be able to control it below 100% output. So at 50% output I might only get a degree or two of cooling on the GPU's. I have yet to try to tap these into the chassis power to see what RPM they run at. Right now they are plugged into the motherboard. I do like the red LED lights though. I would rate these a star or two higher if I could get the to work properly, which is more because of the mobo I'm sure.

Update 15May10

I bought a Kaze Q fan controller. I can turn the fan down to less noisy RPM. It's still a noisy fan, but the cooling is good. I could say, with a fan controller, these fans are worth another full to 1/2 star. Its the only fan in the case I can hear running.

2.0 out of 5 stars Meh... bad batch perhaps?, July 28, 2009

This review is from: Cooler Master 120mm Red LED Case Fan - (R4-L2R-20CR-GP) (Personal Computers)
I wrote a review a few months ago when I had purchased these fans, praising their quality and performance. I regret that I am taking it back now. I bought three of them for my Cosmos S and I wont lie, they were awesome. They looked great, moved a ton of air and didn't make too much noise for 2000 RPM.

About six months later, all three of them are dead while my two other Coolermaster fans live on. One of them simply doesn't work, probably burned out. The other two sound like jackhammers and nothing I did was able to restore them. I don't understand why. They rarely spun full speed because I don't overclock and game that much and I always keep my case clean.

I purchased three of the standard 1200 RPM fans from CM, as they seem pretty reliable -- two of them have been merrily spinning in my case for over a year now without issue.

I'm not sure if I had a bad batch or tough luck but these fans were a bit disappointing.

4.0 out of 5 stars worth an extra dollar or two., August 3, 2011

THE COMPETITION:
I have a cooler Master Stacker 830 with 7 120mm fans mounted in it. I've tried 3 different brands of fan trying to find the right combination of color, noise level and reliability. Logisys has poorly produced fans (loud rattling from 2 of 4 units), and the LEDs tend to be more orange than red. they offer good air flow though. Rosewill has fans that break if you look at them wrong, but are a nice shade of red, and have decent airflow while they last. the color effect is bright on both of these fans, (even if it's not the RIGHT color).

THE CONTENDER:
Coolermaster fans don't produce as much airflow as those listed above, But the LEDs are the right color red, and the fans do not have any undue rattling noises. they started out pretty loud, but after a few days of normal use, they quieted down to no louder than any of my (surprisingly still working) Rosewill fans. The smoke colored fan blades means the color effect is more muted/subtle that the fans with clear blades.

THE CONCLUSION:
- at first i didn't like that the coolermaster fans 'sublet' lighting, but as i've had time to evaluate the fan, i've decided that i now like the effect better that my other fans, and will be replacing all the fans in my case with Coolermaster fans. Overall i am VERY HAPPY with these fans

THE NOTES:
- If you want a fan that is absolutely quiet you're going to have to blow on the components yourself. you can't move air with a bladed fan and not make noise.
- If you don't like the noise your case is making with the fans running flat out, by a fan controller and run them at 70%. You'd be surprised how much quieter that is.

They move lots of air and are loud at default speed (top speed). Nothing a fan speed controller can't tame! O.O

5.0 out of 5 stars case fans, July 7, 2010

These are some of the best case fans I have used. While you can get higher output units you cannot get ones with anywhere near the DBA output of these particular fans period. The Lighting can be disabled if you do not want them so this is as far as I can tell one of the best fans on the market. I also use them (Generally in dual implementation on CPU coolers of the tower variety) in 3 PC's, and has of of yet never had an issue of any type with any of the 6 I currently use in this way. I also use them where cases allow 120mm fans (intake exhaust etc) in the cases with the same verdict. So if you want some of the best fans out there with these specifics there is not another unless you don't mind tons of noise.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loud fan, for some placements, June 4, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cooler Master 120mm Red LED Case Fan - (R4-L2R-20CR-GP) (Personal Computers)
Okay, Ive tried multiple speeds for this fan, tested it inside and outside of the chassis, but this is just a loud fan! If you dont mind the noise then feel free to purchase this fan.

EDIT: For some reason after placing this fan on a more sturdy fix, and the other in its place, the noise went away. It might be because this fan seems a little more "plasticy" then the other one. So it may be loud depending on what you attach it to.

Also, if you want it for the LED, it does not emit much light, it only makes the fan look red.

I have two of these in a CM Storm Scout case. I am surprised on how much cooler they've made my case. These are some really quiet fans also.

2.0 out of 5 stars TERRIBLE!!!!!!, January 25, 2012

I give this fan a 2 star cause it does actually work but this thing is far from quiet. I tried it on numerous configurations with different PSU's and this is just noisy! I have my case on the desk next to me and at 10% - 100% fan speeds this thing is loud and annoying. I can't tell you how noisy this fan is. When this fan is off and all the fans in my case are at 100% speeds my case is virtually quiet 3 feet away. If I turn this fan on with 100% fan speed, I can hear it from across the room! I placed this fan in the optional 120 MM slot in the Cooler Master HAF X Full Tower with a NZXT Fan Controller and im glad I went with the controller so I can shut the fan down when I don't need it. I will be replacing this fan but its too late for me to exchange it but I guess I just got one out of the bad batch like others.

The other fans in my case:
would recommend these fans
Cooler Master 200mm(Red) x4
