5.0 out of 5 stars Great performance/price ratio, December 15, 2011

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler (RR-212E-20PK-R2) (Personal Computers)
Installed this item on a Core i5 2500k and have been using it for some time now. After monitoring it's temps after several hours of Prime95 and other programs, I am very satisfied with this item. i purchased this for 36 dollars, at that price point it is one of the best heatsinks I have heard of. Consistently gets great reviews from professional sites, which is the main reason I bought it. Temps for my system was around 25-30celsius idle and 45-54c avg on full load with Arctic Silver 5 TIM. Temps were taken from program core temp v1.0.
Cooler is very light, has excellent mounting system for socket 1155, isn't too tall, and is pretty darn quiet.
Must note, the main difference between this Evo version and the Hyper plus version is that the heat pipes are grouped together touching each other instead of spread apart and has more uniform base.
Highly recommended

Got bored with my Corsair H70, so decided to go back to air cooling. Temps are actually lower with this. The stock fan is silent during idle. For an almost $60 price difference between this and Corsair's newer H80, stick with this. There's only a few degrees difference in temps from all the pro reviews. I was on the all-in-one water cooling gimmick bandwagon for most of this past year. Glad I got off it. Back to air. Back to reality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing cooler, March 20, 2012

When I considered adding a cooler to my coreI 5, and considered this one, to be sincere I thought it was too much hazel, because of the size and hardware.
But considering my total satisfaction with Coolermaster Power supply and Case, I gave it a shot.
With the stock cooler was getting temps between 75 and 85 Celsius NOW With the 212 EVO I'm getting between 50 and 55 Celsius.
I highly recommend it. IS A GREAT COOLER

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Air Cooler, April 26, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler (RR-212E-20PK-R2) (Personal Computers)
I bought this after I realized from reviews of my new i7 processor that I would need a non-stock cooling solution. I have used water cooling on past systems, and ultimately found that these systems just added expense and size to already expensive and large systems. I was encouraged by the price and reviews on this, and was not disappointed. Mounting system is excellent for LGA1155 (my system), and looks equally nice for other compatible boards. I did not run my system without this cooler so I have no comparison, but this keeps the system well under thermal limits even when overclocked. I used the included thermal paste -- no need for arctic silver, IMO.

One note -- you will probably need to remove the motherboard to install this, even if you have a Cooler Master case (as I do). One of the reviews here shows someone taking a Dremel tool to their MOBO tray ... I saw no need for this. While the stands don't line up with my CPU cutout in my tray, they do fit nicely between the tray and the MOBO ... But you will probably need to pull the board, so if you're building a new system make sure you install the mounting hardware for this cooling system before installing your board in the case.

Highly recommended. If you're looking for an effective and inexpensive cooling solution for your system, look no further.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this!, March 20, 2012

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler (RR-212E-20PK-R2) (Personal Computers)
Intel Core i5 2500K at stock settings running Prime95 (100% CPU load) for 10 minutes this topped out at 50c without even trying hard. My fan speeds are 600rpm idle, so low that I had to go into BIOS and lower the threshold for the slow CPU fan warning, and around 1200rpm under full CPU load. The fan is capable of 2000rpm, I just didn't get warm enough for it to require much more than half that speed. The stock Intel cooler topped out at 82c. Idle temps dropped a fair bit too from 34c to about 28c. Both were installed using Arctic Silver 5 and according to Arctic instructions (one line). The red zone starts at about 95c, so this offers plenty of opportunity to overclock, though I'm not planning to. I just didn't like how close to the red zone the Intel cooler allows the CPU to get...and the noise it makes while doing it.

This included reasonable instructions, naturally in 7 different languages and covering several different socket types..but still easy enough to understand what you need to do. It also included a 3oz tube of grey thermal paste labeled "Cooler Master". The only tool required is a phillips screwdriver, included is a nut driver/phillips adapter that works reasonably well to tighten the required nuts. Extra fan mounting hardware is included to allow a second fan to be attached for a push/pull setup. Fan mounts include thin rubber pads between the bracket and the fan. They will prevent rattling but not isolate vibration as the entire fan assembly is still clipped directly to the heat sink.

The only criticism I have of this cooler is that the surface of the area that contacts the CPU isn't polished and smooth, however their direct pipe contact is done so well that there aren't any noticeable crevices between the pipes at all as is seen on other coolers. So while it isn't a mirror finish it is a very consistent flat surface. That's good because thermal paste is for filling tiny imperfections, not patching holes. "Tinting" the unpolished surface is probably a good idea though.

4.0 out of 5 stars great cpu heatsink, December 21, 2011

Keep overclocked 4.0 AMD X6 1100T idle at 32 degree C. Full load when run prime95 at 50 degree C. Room temp is warm.
Very good price/performance ratio. Installation is time consuming and not easy. Manual illustration is small and not clear.

Amazon ships via UPS is good. Amazon packaging protection is very minimal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool and Quiet, October 6, 2011
This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler (RR-212E-20PK-R2) (Personal Computers)
$35 Purchase Price.

The Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus is one of the top CPU coolers out there as according to Frostytech. Ranked 30 out out ~300 or so coolers.

The Hyper 212 Evo is the new and improved version of the Hyper 212 Plus.

It has a better mounting bracket that allows you to shift the cooler am little bit on your CPU. This is very useful if you have large heat sinks on your motherboard or very tall RAM and need to move the heat sink a few millimeters to get it to fit.
Also. the heat pipes are on the bottom are flattened out better, so the contact surface with the CPU is completely flat as opposed to the Hyper 212 Plus.

***

I installed this cooler over my i7-2600K with Arctic Silver. Here are the temps as according to HWMonitor

Ambient Temperature: 18C
CPU 25C at 0800rpm - Low Usage at 1.6Ghz [web browsing]
CPU 45C at 1000rpm - Prolonged 100% load at stock 3.4Ghz [video rendering]
CPU 55C at 1450rpm - Prolonged 100% load at overclocked 4.4Ghz [video rendering]

This fan is very quiet. I was pretty shocked that my computer stayed dead silent throughout the testing, even when the fan was spinning at 1450rpm.

***

If you are on a budget, you might want to get the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus. It's essentially the same cooler as this one [though a bit inferior] but much cheaper. It's $20 which is $25 cheaper than the current price for this cooler. [which is $45]

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, May 7, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler (RR-212E-20PK-R2) (Personal Computers)
I got this for my new i5-3570k. It keeps it running very cool, around 30-33C under minor load. I haven't had a chance to fully test it yet. Install was pretty easy, easier than other heat sinks I have installed in the past.

Instructions that come with are basically worthless, Youtube was very helpful.

From what I have seen compared to the Hyper 212+, the gaps are much smaller on the EVO to create better contact with processor.

Didn't use compound it came with, used Arctic Silver.

One hint I would give is: Check Intel's Site(or AMD) to see the proper way to apply compound. The IB processor use a single line down the middle as opposed to a dot in the middle. Also the Arctic Silver website is helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cooler Master has the most flexible AM2/AM3 mounting options that also "bolt-thru" the board, April 15, 2012
This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler (RR-212E-20PK-R2) (Personal Computers)
I mainly do AMD builds and I prefer the CPU Coolers with mounting options that don't use the reference AMD bracket, which are sometimes implemented very cheaply (e.g. no metal backplate). I almost always check Cooler Master's offerings because they have sturdy, "bolt-thru the board" mounting options and are reasonably priced. The mounting option on this cooler not only offers that option, but it gives you the option to turn the cooler in any 90 degree increment. Because I also like Asrock motherboards and many of them have the mounting bracket/holes turned 90 degrees, coolers like this one give you options. If you want maximum airflow out of the back of the case and have space in the case, this is a great choice. Cooler Master's GeminII & Hyper N 520 coolers also offers similar mounting flexibility, but are better for lower profile needs. I also like the fan mounting option on this unit better vs. the metal wire rigging on Xiggy coolers. One Minor cons is that you need access to the back of the motherboard for mounting (many newer cases have this, older cases will require either modding a cut-out or board removal). All in all, COOLER MASTER = VALUE!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Cooler - Good Price, April 3, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler (RR-212E-20PK-R2) (Personal Computers)
Arrived in good shape. The directions are so so.
It's easy to install if the motherboard is out in the open. The mounting hardware could be a bit more user friendly.
A few of the fins were slightly bent under the fan. An easy fix when the fan is off in preparation for mounting. I used Artic Silver 5 instead of the paste that came with the cooler to mount it.
It comes with mounts for a second fan.

On an Intel i7-2600K with the motherboard sitting on a workbench, running Prime95 at full tilt, and using CoreTemp to monitor CPU temp.
With the stock cooler the CPU would heat up to 70C in about 60 seconds.
With the 212 EVO installed the CPU never reached 70C.
Over-clocked the CPU to 4.2 and it runs Prime95 and FurMark at the same time.
It fits inside an Antec Solo II case with plenty of room. It's very quiet until it ramps up.
Good price, not too heavy, not too big, cools well, not too loud, I like it.
