Fan is quiet and works well to cool my laptop.

My one complaint though is that the rubber grip designed to keep the computer from sliding off totally does not work for me.

It seemed a little small but it fit perfectly underneath my 14" laptop.

The Asus 1201N netbook runs hotter than the other notebook computers in my life, so I wanted to try something with a fan.

The Cooler Master Notepal U1 is just the right size for the Asus 12-inch computer. It's also a good fit for 10-inch and 14-inch computers.

This model comes with a single fan. The larger U2 model comes with two. The fan blows air at the computer, which I think is more effective than fans that draw warm air away, as many of the others do. The fan is barely audible. You can position the fan at the point beneath the stand where it's needed most, and with the 1201N computer the left side is definitely where the fan is needed. I don't know of any other cooling stand where you can do that.

I can tell this is working because I no longer feel the heat in my lap. Before, it was warm enough that I imagined the meat in my thigh was slow cooking. I had been using a stand that raises the computer and lets air flow beneath it, between the computer and the lap board, but there was no fan.

The Notepal stand is cleverly designed for taking along when you leave home. It's very light in weight. You remove the fan from the underside of the stand, and position the computer in its place, so the high end of the stand wraps around one of the longer sides of the computer. There are rubberized surfaces on the stand to protect the computer. This assembly fits inside the notebook case I'm using. The fan fits in an outside pocket. The fit inside the case is snug enough that I don't need the strap they included with the stand to bind the stand and computer together.

The Notepal U1 and U2 cooling stands might be the best ever made. I don't work for the company. If after reading this they send me something free, I'll update this review to let you know.

Bought the product two months ago. Was satisifed with being able the place the fan where I wanted. But already the fan is out of alignment and has become incredibly loud. Just not a well built product.

U1 with one fan review. I have this model and the larger U2. I wanted to try both and ended up buying both. This particular model fits my 13 inch Macbook. It fits yes, but I want the fan underneath the power supply. That is the reason I also have the U2 which I will be using primarily. I plan to use three fans on the U2 model. The U1 fan are identical to the U2 minus one fan.

The construction of the aluminum mesh pad is top notch, they do not flex when twisted. The angle of the pad is perfect for typing and "clamshell mode" on the Mac. The fan is made by Cooler Master and works quite well. (Cooler Master also makes CPU coolers)

I just got my U2 this morning, I ended up buying another U1 this evening, since it was on sale locally. If you have a small notebook that needs cooling, this is your cooler. If you have a larger notebook, get the U2.

cheers!

The NotePal U1 notebook cooler is supposedly designed for use with laptops up to 14 inches, but the frame is only 10 inches wide. At first I wasn't very impressed with the single fan, which does not seem that powerful. The unit did a pretty good job with my Acer Aspire One, which is only nine inches wide. It was a mild surprise to find that if you give it time, this device did an adequate job of cooling a larger 15" laptop.

The USB powered fan is very quiet, and is designed to easily attach to and detach from, the perforated metal base. This system is quite ingenious and works very well, as it allows you to place the fan where it can do the most good. The fan has a foot long cord, with a pass-thru USB connector. The connector is a little bulky, but it still allows the USB port to be shared by an additional device. The fan stays on during power saving mode, and when the computer goes into hibernation. It shuts off only when the computer is turned off.

The metal base is strong enough to support a larger sized laptop, but the computer needs to be centered for balance, as a couple of inches will stick over the edges on both sides. Obviously the elevated base permits more airflow underneath the laptop. If the height and angle are not comfortable, you can try bending the frame to get a more favorable angle. Pop the fan off, and the unit is ready to take with you. There is some rubber padding on the inside edges of the frame, to allow the frame to slide over a closed laptop. How practical this is, depends on your computer. For larger laptops, or those with protruding batteries, this arrangement might not work out too well.

Overall although it is a bit undersized for a 14 inch laptop, I am mostly satisfied with the NotePal U1.

This review is actually for the Cooler Master two fan cooler but the fan mounts are the same on all of these models.
I needed a laptop cooler for my MacBookPro and this cooler is a beautifully designed product with one major flaw. The mounting tabs located on the cooling fans are designed to be attached to the bottom of the cooler frame via a spring loaded design. There is a spring loaded mechanism on each of the fans that allows you to mount the fans anywhere on the bottom of the perforated cooler top where the laptop sits. Four corresponding "plastic" tabs located on top of each fan clip onto the bottom of the cooler top through the perforated mounting holes.
Unfortunately due to the extremely fragile nature of these "plastic" tabs, they can be easily snapped off! I received my unit with two of the tabs broken on one of the fans right out of the box! Now I am going to have to drill two small holes in the top of the plastic fan housing and attach the fan with my own hardware. If they only would have used metal tabs on the fans this would have been a perfect product! I would even have been willing to pay a higher price for the product. Sending the unit back for refund or replacement is not an option as shipping costs are nearly 50% of what the product cost to begin with...
