The two fans run extremely quiet and are very efficient.

The connection for the fans fits in a hole on the inside of the side bit which has the main power source and USB ports (on the other side of them).

They do cool down the laptop enough that I can play a lot of video games that used to overheat my laptop.

tl;dr review: My fiance got this for me after I complained my 17" behemoth laptop has been running too hot. It didn't work, but it was easy to fix, and now it's operational, effective, and quiet.

If you own a 15.4" laptop, that might make you think, "Five stars just for that?" If you own a 17" laptop, you probably know how @#$%ing impossible it is to find a decent cooling pad in this size, so you're probably already clicking "Add to Cart"...

Longer review:
I opened the box and positioned the fans within a matter of a couple minutes. The Y-split part of the Y-cord is short enough to limit the fan configurations you can do; there's only a couple of inches of separate cords for the two fans before they merge into one. This isn't really a problem, because the fans are so large, it hardly matters where you put them.

So anyway, I fire it up, aaaaand: the blue 'all systems go' light lights up, and the USB hub is recognized instantly, but the fans don't work. I see a place to plug in a 5v AC adapter, but the cooling unit doesn't come with an AC adapter. Is that the problem? Irritated, I go snag an adapter from my box of old cords and plug it in. The fans STILL don't work.

Almost ready to return the box, I decided to open the hub assembly first, to see if I can spot the problem. Two tiny screws, removable with a normal Phillips screwdriver, and I'm in. And hey look, the fan's power cord isn't plugging in to the fan--five seconds and that's fixed. And whoosh, the thing takes off. I love it when you can repair a device, despite having no clue how it works and hardly any repair skills. This is built simply.

And it turns out I didn't need that AC adapter after all. It runs fine off its USB cord.

As for performance: solid.

I ordered this stand after returning the Targus Lap Chill Mat AWE55US (Black/Gray), which was a joke as far as "chill" factor. However, that is a thing of the past with the Note Pal U Stand. I have a MBP, which like all Macs runs blazing hot on the left. Initially I set up the stand as directed, which did lower the temps, but not as much as I wanted. I run my MBP pretty much 24/7, so I want to keep it as cool as possible. I have now placed both fans on the left side & WOW! What a difference! Noticeable difference in feel to the touch now. It is ever so slightly warm over the upper left corner, the hottest part of the MBP. Averages about 20 degrees cooler than what I was getting before & RPMs of internal fans have dropped significantly. I am very happy with this. However, like anything, there are drawbacks. The fans get in the way so that you cannot fold it up completely flat. If you plan on toting this around it would be an inconvenience of breaking it down or being a little bulky. However, if you don't need to fold it completely flat often enough to make it a pain, I'd suggest this set-up for MBP users or anyone who has a notebook that runs hotter on one side than another. The adjustable slip guides are great. They are large enough to securely hold the laptop in place and the rounded corners do not dig in to you, not that that should be a problem with it being adjustable. I find, depending on what I am doing or how I am sitting that being adjustable is quite convenient, so one shouldn't have a problem with the guides. The fact it has the USBs is great, we all need more, but for some reason my GoFlex external HD will not work with it.Read more ›

I am very pleased with the cooling fan, it performs well and keeps my laptop at a much lower temperature. my laptop fan NEVER turns on now and the small fans on the stand are so quiet, i can barely hear them. The stand itself has a few levels for your laptop to sit on, and they are a great bonus to this, i just needed something to keep my laptop cooler. If your wondering which stand cooler to get, this one is really worth a shot.

This Stand is Wide, like my 17" HP Wide-Screen. The Fan's are whisper quiet and do an admirable job of providing extra circulation, it really makes it a joy to type with the keyboard ramped up and the extra USB ports are a welcome addition, i like it..

UPDATE 12/30/12: After less than two month the mini USB dislodged from the mother board and the fans have stopped working. What I thought was a brilliant buy and a life saver for my laptop has now become a huge disappointment. If I had repeatedly plugged and unplugged the USB from the unit I could see where wiggling would have caused it to break off, but I haven't unplugged the unit from the computer since I bought it. The laptop is moved while still on the cooling stand as if they are one so I don't understand why the USB broke from the motherboard except that it was poorly made. Although the cooling stand a year warranty, I was told that this particular problem isn't covered. Back to square one and 40 bucks lighter. I am not happy...

I bought this cooling stand because I needed a laptop desk and my HP computer overheats a lot. Apparently that seems to be a problem with this brand. Anyway, after researching price and functions I settled on the Cool Master and I found that it was less expensive on Amazon.

I like it except that my computer only has vents on the left side and both fans can't accommodate them. I also don't like the fact that if i want to go to the lowest setting, I have to move the fans which means that the vents are getting less cooling action. Otherwise I am very happy with the durability, design and functions.
