Although these fans are virtually silent, they don't move a lot of air (15.75 CFM). If your cooling needs are modest, and you're looking for a quiet 80mm fan, this is a good bet. Odds are, this will be one of the quietest components in your system. That said -- if you're willing to put up with more noise, you'll be able to move twice as much air with a more powerful fan unit.

These were certainly cheap enough, I bought 2 to help airflow in a larger tower case. They don't create any negligible air movement/turbulence noise, but they do make a little oscillating sound, reminiscent of crickets. These were installed in a computer that is in an upstairs loft that I use as a music studio, and when I stand at the base of the stairs, they are heard clearly...and the room is rather large and carpeted. I tend to think it wasn't just a fluke (maybe one bad fan) as I can hear the 'pitch' of each fan as it oscillates.I installed these at the same time as a Corsair H50 cpu cooler to help airflow and am doing cpu temp tests now to see if the extra fans make a significant difference. BTW, with the extra fans off, the machine is damn near silent! Kudos to the H50! As I said, they were cheap enough, so it's hardly worth returning them. I'll keep them in the case, unplugged for the time being...maybe put a switch on them for some serious cpu number crunching occasions.

I am using this fan to cool a power amplifier. I am running it with a Pyle 12 volt power supply (which is really 13.8 volts) and the fan is about 50db at 2 feet away. Any further away than that is below the threshold of my decibel meter. It would be completely silent if running at, say, 10 volts or less. It's true that it doesn't move a lot of air, but it keeps my amp cool and is quiet.
