4.0 out of 5 stars Quiet....but not very powerful
Although these fans are virtually silent, they don't move a lot of air (15.75 CFM). If your cooling needs are modest, and you're looking for a quiet 80mm fan, this is a good bet. Odds are, this will be one of the quietest components in your system.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not really silent...at all!
These were certainly cheap enough, I bought 2 to help airflow in a larger tower case. They don't create any negligible air movement/turbulence noise, but they do make a little oscillating sound, reminiscent of crickets. These were installed in a computer that is in an upstairs loft that I use as a music studio, and when I stand at the base of the stairs, they are heard...

These were certainly cheap enough, I bought 2 to help airflow in a larger tower case. They don't create any negligible air movement/turbulence noise, but they do make a little oscillating sound, reminiscent of crickets. These were installed in a computer that is in an upstairs loft that I use as a music studio, and when I stand at the base of the stairs, they are heard clearly...and the room is rather large and carpeted. I tend to think it wasn't just a fluke (maybe one bad fan) as I can hear the 'pitch' of each fan as it oscillates.

I installed these at the same time as a Corsair H50 cpu cooler to help airflow and am doing cpu temp tests now to see if the extra fans make a significant difference. BTW, with the extra fans off, the machine is damn near silent! Kudos to the H50! As I said, they were cheap enough, so it's hardly worth returning them. I'll keep them in the case, unplugged for the time being...maybe put a switch on them for some serious cpu number crunching occasions.

I am using this fan to cool a power amplifier. I am running it with a Pyle 12 volt power supply (which is really 13.8 volts) and the fan is about 50db at 2 feet away. Any further away than that is below the threshold of my decibel meter. It would be completely silent if running at, say, 10 volts or less. It's true that it doesn't move a lot of air, but it keeps my amp cool and is quiet.

I bought a pair of these fans because I wanted to replace fans included with my case and was looking for something less loud. This model described as silent (<13dB). Well ... it is not.

There is a humming noise that I really really doubt is no louder than 13dB. It is actually louder than my case fans that I was trying to replace. My guess it should be somewhere around 25dB
Not acceptable for a silent HTPC.

Also the cable with 3-pin connector is too short - not long enough to reach socket on motherboard. Again not an issue with original fan that was already included with my case. There is extender with 4 pin adapter at the end though. But I really wanted to connect fans to motherboard control sockets, not to PSU.

I guess it would be acceptable for 5$ if the fan wasn't labeled as ultra quiet. The only reason I ordered these fans in the first place was to get really quiet model. So - a total miss.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seriously quiet!, December 8, 2010

This review is from: Cooler Master 80mm Ultra Silent Series Superflo Bearing Case Fan - (SAF-S84-E1) (Personal Computers)
My RAID array box had dying fan bearings, so I bought this item with hopes that they meant it when they named it "Ultra Silent"... and they did! The RAID array is now so quiet I have to check the Power On LED to see if it's running.

The only issue in the installation was the plug that was provided didn't match the one in the box, so I had to cut the old plugs off the dead fans and use them. The entire procedure (two fans) took about 15 minutes. If you understand how to splice a couple of wires, you can do this.

Got this to replace the stock case fan for my media PC and it runs nearly silent now. Great for the money!

I needed to replace the 3 fans inside a case. After replacing the original fans with these I have actually questioned if it was on or not because they make little to no noise and keep the temp nice and cool even while gaming.

Well I didnt use these fans to cool a computer but they work fine. They are basically silent, they dont move a lot of air but they are made to be silent over moving a ton of air.

Good fan, can't tell if it quiet because I have a potentiometer between the power supply and fans. I can tell you it's virtually not audible when I lower the fan speeds, which is a must in my home studio.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Moves the Air, July 17, 2010

This review is from: Cooler Master 80mm Ultra Silent Series Superflo Bearing Case Fan - (SAF-S84-E1) (Personal Computers)
This unit really moves the air....The motor is quiet, however the air movement still makes noise. It does it's job along with the other fans.....Have 2 along with the processor fan and power supply fan. Well worth the money.
