5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for
My current Media Center PC is in a closed cabinet and was overheating, so I looked for a solution to solve this problem.

I found these two USB powered fans and they work like a charm.
I just drilled two holes in the back of the cabinet, put the fans there and I had no more heating issues.

They are very very quiet and the best thing is that,...

3.0 out of 5 stars FYI - Only one side has a guard
I purchased this item to use as an external device. Was expecting a fan guard on both sides - only one side protected. Fans worked well, and if you are going to mount them would probably be okay. But I did not feel they would be safe just sitting out so I returned them. Better product description would have prevented this.

They are very very quiet and the best thing is that, since they are USB powered, they only work when the PC is switched on.

I am very happy with this item.

These fans are excellent. I have an old but still wonderful Plasma TV that has heat issues. I bought 3 sets of these fans, got a hot glue gun and tacked the fans to the TV hot spots. I swapped the grills on 50% of the fans so that 3 blow air into the TV and 3 draw hot air out - powered them temporarily with my cable box USB and used a USB hub to send current to all fans. Wonderful fans. Eventually I'll open the back of the TV and see if I can permanently screw mount them and find an internal power source so the fans turn off in concert with the TV. I give the fans 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars cools my cabinet, December 29, 2010

I needed to cool my cable box and bluray player that are in an enclosed entertainment cabinet
that my wife picked out. Hole sawed 2 openings in the back top behind the components, plugged
the usb connection into the useless one on the cable box and there you have it cool and quiet.

5.0 out of 5 stars They Work Great!, December 30, 2011

I purchased a new cabinet for my TV that has glass doors that cover the components below. I didn't think this would be a problem but quickly realized there was a lot of heat building up when I opened the doors. The heat building up over my Pioneer receiver was especially bad.

I installed these fans and they keep the cabinet cool now. I ordered a total of four fans. I reversed the fan guards on all of my fans so that they are sucking rather than blowing. I installed two fans directly behind my receiver, one fan behind my DVR, and one fan behind my Blu ray player. When they are on you can actually feel a slight draft in front of the door crack openings.

They are quiet as other people have said. I can notice a slight noise from them when the volume is turned way down. I am not sure but I think the noise could be some vibration that is amplified since I mounted them directly to the back of my cabinet. Perhaps I might try putting some foam behind them to absorb some of the vibration, but really it is barely noticeable when the volume is off and sitting across the room.

FYI a three inch hole saw was perfect for cutting into the back of my cabinet. I picked up a hole saw kit off Amazon for about 15 bucks that worked fine.

Use these with a USB extender to cool my older receiver... quiet fans too! Just put the grate on the other side and they were blowing cool air onto my receiver in no time!

5.0 out of 5 stars great option for cooling component cabinet, September 25, 2011

I have been trying to come up with a good solution to cool AV cabinet and was using laptop cooling fans. The other fans did not move the air at a good rate. These fans are perfect. They are quiet and they move a lot of air. I have ordered another set and I am going to put one set on the receiver and cable box and another moving the air out of the cabinet through a vent. At this price I can replace if they wear out but the seem pretty robust at this point.

Wanted these to help cool a Rotel Receiver I use at work in a warehouse. Due to the large room size, the Rotel is cranked up most of the time for 8 hours or more a time and was getting pretty hot. I know they're built for that, but I was still concerned, so I bought these fans and made a Styrene plate with magnets on the back and holes for the fans to attach to the top of the Rotel. Works awesome. Have a USB converter plugged into the switched outlet in the back of the rOtel and the fans kick on anytime the receiver is in use and keeps it plenty cool at all times.

Can't comment on the noise of the fans as my work is quite loud and the music louder most of the time.

I was looking for external fans with low wattage for a stronger exhaust. I got a bonus when I got two for the price of one, low wattage and high CFMs (44), the highest I've seen. I installed it in an old fan housing off of a p3 HP and installed it outside to the back of my computer to help suck out the air from the case. The other one went into a modified housing I made special for my gtx465. Connected to the back of the case to the exhaust vent of the video card. Nvidia card fans are horrible. The only issue is the usb is always live so I have to turn off the psu switch whenever I'm not using my computer or the fans will keep running. plug n unplugging the usb is not good for the connection.

These are pretty good for what I use them for, venilating my computer cabinet. But after a short amount of time, one started making a quiet ticking noise. Not a deal breaker but anoying.
