5.0 out of 5 stars The Coolest Cuts Coolest Review, June 25, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Coolest Cuts (Audio CD)
If one could take the best of many years and still not have heard it all , then this would be the c.d. SHAKATK at thier very best and going through the years on this one sounding like one has just got off a plane in Rio and ready to samba!. So very relaxing and most enjoyable. It is not often that a person or persons can have so many good things to say about music and even though they deserve much more credit than they get, they sure are artists who just get on with and enjoy the whole experience and it certainly shows. Defenately a wonderfull experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars a wonderful collection of '80s jazz-funk, October 4, 2004

Though a bit tilts more toward jazz than I usually prefer, UK-based Shakatak in early '80s produced very pleasant jazz-funk with lots of pop flavor. They did not do the hard-core funk of black musicians or the performance oriented jazz music, but found a quality distillation of jazz/funk/pop fusion. That's exactaly what I was interested in and this compilation sure does satisfy. Their stuff is too smooth for American audiences, I suppose, so Shakatak remains a bit of obscure name in the United States (They are still performing to this date) but has been a quite successful band where less hard-core stuff are well received (e.g., Europe and Japan...). But I don't know why Shakatak CDs are hard to find in the States while Swing Out Sister, which does kind of similar stuff, remains accessible.

I recommend this album for anyone who likes '80s jazzy funk tunes with danceable beat.
