New Jack Swing at its best,
This review is from: Coolin' At The Playground Ya Know! (Audio CD)
Michael Bivins of Bell Biv Devoe managed and produced this band. If you like BBD you will love this - it seems he took the New Jack thing further and harder with this album. "Iesha" and "Playground" were the two biggest hits (top ten of R & B chart I think). Michael Bivins is a legend and this album is him through and through.
A must for any New Jack lover.

This was one of my favorite groups,

I bought the tape when it first came out. My favorite songs were "Iesha," "Coolin' At The Playground," "Jealous Girls," and "My World." I haven't seen my tape since the early 90s and I still remember the words to some of these songs. I sure would love to see how Red, Mark, Ro Ro, Lil' Dave, Chris and G.A. look now. I loved this group.

Not a brilliant creation, but not a bad one either,

Another Bad Creation had a couple of fun summer jams in 1991 with "Iesha" and "Playground." There's really nothing special here, but these kids seem to be having fun, and I certainly had some fun jamming to this back in the day. And, though I tend to hold New Edition to much higher standards, I was impressed with ABC's cover of their song "Jealous Girl," and I think they did NE a favor there.

Takes Me Back.....,

I was 11 years old when this album came out & I let my tape rock until my tape popped! I loved ABC like those girls who stand outside of TRL for NSYNC or the Backstreet Boys! I was a dedicated fan. Even now that I'm a grown woman in my 20s, I can still say this was a good CD. If I can find a copy I would still play it today. The only song on this album that got on my nerves was Spyderman. Playground, My World, Iesha & the remake of New Edition's Jealous Girl are the stand out tracks on this album.

Awesome Album,

AWESOME Album!! Straight classic. I wish they had had more hits like this, the group definitely had promise. Really liked their second album, some really funky and/or hard-hitting cuts on that one, but this is a straight classic. I'm not sure I know anybody from this era who can't jam out to this when they listen to it. CLASSIC.

these kids were talented,
This review is from: Coolin' At The Playground Ya Know (Audio CD)
another bad creation. my favorite new jack album. sure, it wasn't as commercially successful as say..guy's albums or bbd or new edition, but these preteens came on the scene at the right time. new jack was starting to fade a bit and people were getting tired of seeing the same pioneers. as a result, a new wave of talent started to emerge in the late '90-early '91 period. one of the 1st acts was another bad creation. they were a part of michael bivins' newly created biv 10 label under the wing of motown. with two top 10 hits, "playground" and 'iesha', abc quickly gained stardom. and with good reason too. they had a talented producer, a talented promoter, and a little variety to their act. they rapped, sung, had skits, and it all meshed so well into "coolin at the playground". the leadoff track, "parents" , introduces the world to them, leading into their smash hit "playground". other notables include "my world, "little soldiers", 'thats my girl" and their other smash hit "iesha". The biggest surprise has to be the rendition of "jealous girl", which sounds much like the original, done 1st by new edition. overall, combining dallas austin's production savvy with bivins' promotional skills, abc was destined for success and they were, spinning off platinum status on their debut.

The Brainchildren of Michael Bivins,
This review is from: Coolin' At The Playground Ya Know (Audio CD)
It would be easy to dismiss ABC as a novelty act, but they actually had some pretty tight production and some decent lyrics (courtesy of their mentors Dallas Austin and Michael Bivins). Not to mention the fact that the boys could sing! The kids shine on new jack swing/bubblegum pop cuts, like "Iesha" and "Playground", but fail to convince when they attempt to sound "tough" on some of their other songs like "Little Soldiers". If you take it for what it is (an album for kids and by kids) and don't hold it up against adult new jack swing acts from the same era, it's actually a fairly solid album.

Are u kidding me!! I'm such a product of the late 80's and 90's. I was 12 1/2 when this came out, and The Boys were no longer "in" for me, now came ABC. IESHA YOu are the girl that I never had and I want to get to know you better. Classic, classic. I used to play this cassette until it died. I will never ever forget going to my cousin's house in GA and she told me that she had 2 of the group member's home phone number and we called their house at least 3 times a day and I remember one of their grandfather's getting mad at us saying "WILL YOU PLEASE STOP CALLING, THEY ARE ON THE ROAD!!!" CLICK. I wonder what they are doing now?

I must admit it was a great ablum but I guess I would say I would be a lil more bias with it because I am a friend on one of the former memebers of the group but the fortunately the guys didn't let the stardom get to them.

A Good CD for Kids,

This CD is pretty good for kids. Profanity free and extremely cutesy. I bought it 12 years ago, when I was 5. I wish I still had the tape now!
