Funny how time can change one's mind. It seems that experience and common sense often brings about realizations of past mistakes. And so is with this book. As Mr Ponte writes today:
"But the Leftist press continues to quote bug and flower scientists about global warming - including doomsayers who three decades ago were predicting a fast-approaching, planet-freezing ice age. (I should know, being author of the 1976 Prentice-Hall bestselling climate book The Cooling.)
As you probably recognized, all such Leftist doomsaying - hothouse or ice age, wet or dry, population explosion or drastic decline - calls for the same remedy. We must have bigger government, more political regulation and control, higher taxes, and permit less individual and private sector liberty if we are to survive whatever is this year's fashionable danger."
It is always refreshing to see this - hopefully more of the doom and gloom crowd will awaken to reality and see beyond their wishful utopian view of the world.

This book shows what a joke the environmental movement is. one of the best sellers of the 70's warning us of global cooling. today it's global warming.hmmm maybe global temperatures just naturally fluctuate

I read this book shortly after it came out and was impressed with it.

Since that time real science has been done and found it to be a lot of errors and empty speculation.

Even when it was written the scientists considered it to be a hoot.

This is the so called science that all the Climate Change Deniers use to say that in the 70s we were going into an Ice Age.

We do go into Ice Ages every 15000 years or so, this book never proved that one was right around the corner.

Lowell Ponte has never been a scientist.

Read this book for a laugh, but don't take thing he says seriously.

I put some credence into this book when it was published so many years ago. Historically, we should be gradually heading toward another ice age, thousands of years in the future. However, this prediction has been thoroughly disproven by climate temps since then:

"The record heat of 2015 adds to other long term warming trends. Of the hottest years on record, 15 out of 17 have come since 2000. By contrast, more than a century has gone by since the planet had a record cold year (1911). In addition, this marks 39 years in a row with above average global temperatures..." from Climate Central, published Jan 20th, 2016.

The fact that this obvious warming has occurred, when trends suggested the planet should be cooling, adds more proof to the global warming position, rather than any reason to doubt it. 2015 was the warmest year on record by a strong margin, and 2014 was the next warmest. Denial won't
help. We clearly should try to at least slow the rate of warming, if we can. The books premise wasn't outlandish, just proven to be incorrect.
