Book Description

November 25, 1986
No stone was left unturned in researching this book. This incredibly comprehensive work includes many items from John Cooper's personal records and photo albums, the company's chassis books, as well as 300-plus black-and-white photos and 16 color images. Further unique archival material comes from many of those involved in building the cars and the cars' subsequent owners. Unquestionably regarded as the benchmark work on Cooper, the cars so significant in the development of postwar racing car design.Originally published in 1983 ISBN 1-85532-919-0 Winner of the Montagu Trophy and the Pierre Dreyfus Award

5.0 out of 5 stars A labor of love from a racing time long gone, July 5, 2004

Nye's Cooper Cars marries exhaustive research and scholarship of the marque with an eminently readable style. A must-have for fans of Formula One's bygone years--and an excellent introduction for race-watchers who don't believe World Champion cars could ever come from the garage down on the corner.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good balance of interesting antidotes and encyclopedic information, September 21, 2011

The amount of information in this book is massive. It could easily be called the "Encyclopedia of Cooper Cars". But it is not all dry technical and historical information. It contains many interesting quotes from famous drivers, telling stories of their more memorable experiences.

It does however leave a little to be desired in the engineering department. Little is mentioned of why different chassis designs and configurations were tried. Cooper revolutionized F1 with their rear/mid engined cars and I can't find any mention of why/how they decided to configured that way (yes I know the advantages of a mid engined car, but what led to them discovering that).
