When I saw this, I knew right away from my college beer drinking days that this would work very well. We used to buy crushed ice and lay hot beer cans on their side and spun them until cold. The drawback: you had to spin them yourself. What I wouldn't have given to have access to a device that provided the fastest and most effective cooling possible.
Pros: -Works very well (but only if you load as much ice as possible) -Works very quickly -Small -Handles cans, beer bottles, wine bottles, and even odd shaped stuff like juice boxes that you don't want to spin -A surprising number of settings to suit your taste -Did a lot of research. As of 8/1/2006 could not find anything even remotely close to this good. -Spinning IS NOT shaking, so soda and beer do not explode -Uses ice, not a liner that needs 8 hours of freezer time, both convenient and a space saving option -Items are not submerged under icy water like other competing units, so you don't have to dredge for your drink in cold water Cons: -No power off switch... in standby you get flashing lights on the front which is annoying -Relatively loud, does not appear to have slow roll option to reduce noise -Paper labels on wine bottles get beaten up pretty badly, bits of paper come off (bottle becomes unsightly) -Draining water requires you to unplug at the wall and carry to a sink (unlike my espresso maker which has a lift out chamber) -Requires a power source, not portable unless you are handy and build a battery with gusto (which I can do, but most wouldn't try) -Wine bottles tend to drip a little on the counter as the cold ice water is pumped on them, so we have to put a trivet or thick potholder under the front two feet to help discourage dripping on the counter. I am considering adding a "roll" switch so that I can turn the unit off without unplugging which is an easy modification anyone can do (one a scale of 1 to 10, it's a 1, or really cheap and easy). Bottom line: Despite cons, I recommend this item. Had it a year and still going, popular at parties.

Warm beer into cold in one minute!,

This review is from: Cooper Cooler HC01-A Rapid Beverage Chiller, White and Grey (Kitchen)
Does what it claims to do. Cools from room temperature to about 40 degrees in 1 minute for cans, 3 1/2 for bottles, 6 for a 750ml bottle of wine. Be prepared to burn through ice using this - about 16 cubes to start it up and around four cubes for each successive bottle/can you cool. It spins the bottle/can under a stream of icy water to cool your beverage in no time. Moreover, it sure beats throwing a bottle in the freezer and having it explode when you forget it. Despite the spinning there is no eruption from your can or bottle when you open it - just a bit of a welcoming "burp" when you pop it open.
Great for when you forget to stock your fridge and/or you have guests arrive and insufficient cold drinks on hand.

The item works as described. It is made of quality plastic, not the latest cheapo plastic that breaks when you look at it. Item is a bit noisy, but what do you expect for something that is using simple technology to quickly cool your beverage of choice. Simple and easy to use and maintain. Bravo Cooper Cooler.

Great item .... does what it says it does. No need to keep a fridge full of soda or wine anymore. Just chill as needed.

Chills In Minutes but Noisy,
By Dean (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cooper Cooler HC01-A Rapid Beverage Chiller, White and Grey (Kitchen)
I love this item solely for the fact that if I have a warm drink of nearly any kind I can chill it in a matter of minutes. That having been said its drawbacks have just caused me to start keeping more things in the fridge.
Problems: It's loud, generally from the noise of the bottle or can spinning but even the pump and water when used in the "no-spin" mode can be a bit annoying. You have to fill it with ice, for how much the thing costs I don't want to fill it with ice! I just want to plug it in and go! That may not seem annoying but do it a few times and don't forget to empty the water and you'll see. Overall if you need to chill things quickly (and I mean quickly) this will do the trick but don't expect it to be quiet or very convenient.

I wish this didn't require the user to load in ice first. I wouldn't have bought it had I known that. My husband got home the other night with some beer that needed to be cooled. We went to the icemaker in the freezer and didn't have enough. This product requires two trays of ice cubes. I was expecting something that we could plug in that would have a cooling element of some nature. All this does is spin the bottle over ice. Then, you have to clean it up when it is done and dry it out. What a pain. It is very clunky when spinning a bottle of wine too. Makes a lot of noise. Personally, I thought the price was a bit high considering it's simplicity.
I gave it four stars as it does work well. For those not concerned with having to have a couple trays of ice on hand and cleaning it out after it is done, you will be fine.

No more exploding soda!,

Gave this to my husband who constantly put soda in the freezer, forgot it, and viola exploded soda everywhere! We have been using it constantly. We frequently have large numbers of thirsty teenagers here, and this will chill 12 cans on the initial 2 trays of ice cubes. Though it claims extra time will make a soda nearly freezing cold, it doesn't quite get that cold, but it's definitely refrigerator cold. Have also chilled 20 oz bottles of ice tea, which also are nice and cold. Have not yet tried wine (but we drink mostly red and wouldn't chill that anyway). My neice is getting married and this is a perfect gift for her and her fiance!

Being the kid at heart that I am, I HAD to try out my new 'toy' the minute I got it. I followed the directions, and a room-temperature (Alabama room-temperature) can of soda was perfectly chilled all the way through in less than 5 minutes. This will be a life saver in the Summer down here.
I don't know who this Cooper fellow is who designed the gadget, but he deserves a Nobel Prize in something or another.

The work fine, but break after just a couple uses,
This review is from: Cooper Cooler HC01-A Rapid Beverage Chiller, White and Grey (Kitchen)
I have received two Cooper Coolers as gifts. The first stopped pumping water after a few uses. Then my friend bought me a replacement for Christmas. That one broke on the third use. Now it just makes a faint humming noise. I contacted the Cooper Cooler folks and they said my unit was out of warranty, and offered to sell me another one at a discount. Needless to say, I passed on their offer.
Cooper Coolers work fine, but the quality of these devices is just HORRIBLE. I would stick to a traditional ice-chest.

Tip - Add salt to Ice for better cooling,
This review is from: Cooper Cooler HC01-A Rapid Beverage Chiller, White and Grey (Kitchen)
I've owned a cooper cooler for a few years now. After reading others reviews most seem to praise the cooler for what it does - cool stuff fast.
My 2 Cents: As a tip I found adding salt to the ice and water creates an extra cold slush that lasts longer and chills the bottles & cans much quicker as the salt helps the ice water keep extra cold. |
